Robert Remus aka Sgt. Slaughter Says He Originally Had Bruce Willis' Role In G.I. JOE: RETALIATION

Sgt. Slaughter himself, Robert Remus says that he was originally sought after by the filmmakers of G.I. Joe: Retaliation to have the story arc that was portrayed by Bruce Willis. Would you have preferred Sgt. Slaughter over Joe Colton?

Back in December 2011, I received a tip that Sgt. Slaughter would be appearing in G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Obviously, that wasn't the case but it appears there was some truth to that rumor. Before diving into wrestling news, Sgt. Slaughter reveals that he was originally asked to play the role in G.I. Joe: Retaliation that went to Bruce Willis.

"Yes, I was originally supposed to be the part of Bruce Willis' [as] Sgt. Slaughter but because we had a conflict in toy companies, Hasbro and Mattel, I wasn't able to do it. It's one of those things, Rock doesn't have a contract so he can do what he wants to do and he's been very successful."

When I first heard the about the Joe colton character the first thing that came to mind was why didnt they just use the Sgt. Still like bruce in the movie, but having remus in it would have been fine.

I watched the thing. And the best moments was Bruce Willis.

The Rock sucked and you could feel the studio trying all the usual stuff to get him over. Palicki wasn't even as good as Megan Fox.
The rest of the cast was so lackluster I dont even care to know their names.

But Willis brought spark to the film. Sgt. Slaughter's services are not required.

It's like asking if you wanted a STAR WARS character in a STAR WARS movie. Slaughter defintely would have taken the series in a direction that felt more like GI JOE. Small additions can make large impacts.

I was surprised Sargent Slaughter wasn't in either movie. His character is awesome! And the fact you got to see him kick ass in WWF back in the day was pretty incredible for a kid.

Yes. This would have been better. Bruce Willis didn't add anything to the movie (which was AWESOME!!!) and I am getting tired of Willis' Over-the-hill/I'm-too-old-for-this routine:

GI Joe: Retaliation
A Good Day to Die Hard
RED
RED 2
The Expendables
The Expendables 2: Expendabler

It's even a theme in Looper but there it was used as a cool plot device rather than a lazy character-development method.

I Met This Guy In My Mall, He's A Really Nice Guy, Just Don't Think He'd Be Any Good IN These Type Of Films, Mainly Cause He's Cool And These Films Blow.

I was disappointed Robert wasn't part of the film and he is not one to lie about it. It only makes sense to pull in an actual character that was based off him in the cartoons into one of the films. Robert is a super guy. Yes, I know him. :-)

Haven't see Retaliation yet, so I was much more interested in what he was saying about possibly managing Jack Swagger as a face. That possibly coulda been interesting. The whole "American Racist" gimmick went south in a hurry.

I could possibly take him as an additional role, but not as a replacement for Willis.

When I was a kid, GI Joe was just one guy anyway. I freaked out when I was a teen and he became this huge military force.

@gusto I remember that deal with Orndorff...good times for wrestling.

That could've made the movie! He was supposed to have Brendan Fraser's role in ROC too!

It would have been cool to see him in the movie. Maybe not in Willis' role but in there somehow. And maybe if he lost some weight, if no one has seen him he could skip a meal or two. And the whole toy brand conflict..really I can't think of the last time I saw a Sgt. Slaughter WWE figure, so I think they would let him have one since he had a figure or two back in the 80's.

And the Rock has a contract with one of the 2 companies if not both..they are making Rock figures since he came back to WWE, and the gijoe movie figures soooo

Pretty dumb they couldnt come to terms over toys, not like his wwe figs are flying off pegs, are they even ON pegs? meanwhile his hasbro sdcc joe figure still commands high dollar...he shoulda been involved somehow
