Green Lantern Takes #2 Spot During Its First Three Days Of Release On Blu-Ray

Still no word on the actual numbers, but Martin Campbell-directed comic book adaptation Green Lantern was #2 on Blu-Ray, during its first three days of release...

While we still dont know the actual nummbers, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Martin Campbell's comic book adaptation Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds was #2 on the chart, during the first three days of release on Blu-Ray:

"Warner Home Video’s Green Lantern was the top seller on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart, even though it came out on a Friday instead of the traditional Tuesday and thus was only tracked for three rather than six days. Green Lantern was No. 2, with unit sales just a hair below, while Horrible Bosses finished third."

Hopefully, we will get the official numbers soon, and see if the film made some money, because right now, I'm guessing studio is hoping for good DVD and Blu-Ray sale. Comparing Green Lantern to other comic book movies that were already released on Blu-Ray and DVD, X-Men: First Class was #1 and it made $30 million (also during its first 3 days of release), and THOR managed to collect around $23M (it's now on $45M). So, we will see about Green Lantern.

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.

i bought it the other day and while my reaction in theatres was lukewarm to say the least, i must say that i am starting to warm up to Green Lantern.

while many of the film's elements were mishandled from Hal's family to Hector Hammond, the things they got right were SPOT ON.

Sinestro, Kilowog, Tomar-Re, the Guardians, Abin Sur, the ring, Hal Jordan, Carol Ferris, etc.

while that after credits scene was cool, it detracted from what had just transpired. the cosmic material was awesome. it turned into Smallville on Earth.

but i have seen worse. those that say this is the worst CBM obviously haven't seen Jonah Hex, Catwoman, Elektra, Batman & Robin, X-men Origins: Wolverine, or The Spirit. watch those and then watch Green Lantern. you'll feel a lot better.

unfortunatley, GL, while it was good (i give it a B-), it could have been SOOOOOOOOOOOO much better.

which is why i want this DVD/Blu-Ray release to do well. so that it warrants a superior SEQUEL. not a reboot. learn from your mistakes and try not to start over. that only works in video games.

I bought it the other day as well. I don't understand all the hatred towards it, and why everyone is being such a dick about it. It wasn't top notch, but it is entertaining, and introduced GL to the mainstream. The extended cut added some scenes that helped out the characterization, and added just a little bit to it. I was pleasantly surprised when I went out to buy it, I found the Blu-ray combo pack was sold out at a couple of places. I think that is really good news, and I think a sequel needs to be done, showing what GL really is about. That's my two and a half cents on the matter.

who would pay money for this crap? I mean really? I hope that the sales drop and WB doesn't even bother with a sequel to this crapfest.

If this was Captain America we're talking about, everyone would be like "AMERICA [frick] YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!" and "BEST CBM EVER!!!!!".
Good news for GL, maybe it'll convince WB to move forward with a sequel.

I am the small percentage of people that joined this site for the love of superhero and sci-fi thrillers that BARELY followed the comic books. But I'm not brain dead on backgrounds and stories. The movie was, more or less, well-received in theaters and I liked, not loved, the movie. The effects were dashing and I only had a few complaints about the story, but all in all, this was an acceptable movie. But again, this is only MY opinion. And I say make the sequel, let's see what if they can show Sinestro at his full-potential and not frack up.

its so infernal why anybody cares how much this or that sells or grosses. you are interested in what the general public likes now? you are a fan of glee or justin bieber and watch t.v. shows with laugh tracks? who the eff cares ...

that being said, GL blew!!!! except the scenes on OA, the whole thing was a ramshakle mess. even tim robbins performance was [foo foo]y ...

Things are edited up above in a rather confusing manner. As near as I can tell from the source story, Green Lantern was #1 overall in DVD & Blu-Ray sales, while it was #2 specifically in Blu-Ray sales (behind repeat #1 holder, The Lion King.)

I've said my piece about the movie. I had a lukewarm reaction to it after seeing it in theaters too, and I'm a die-hard DC and GL fan, but again, after watching it a second time I realized how entertaining the film is. Yes, there are things that either should've been done differently or not done at all, but hell, I could say that fora blockbuster like 'The Dark Knight' too. It was a nice effort for WB and DC to try something new. Not to Marvel fans, open your minds more. While I LOVE DC, I do not hate Marvel. I love Spider-Man and Iron Man, and I want both companies to do well. Neither are superior to the other, but are there for our enjoyment.

@Otisburg: And how can you say that when Man of Steel isn't out yet? If you're using the "Oh they're reusing the same villain" argument, than it's a rather stupid one at that. What, it's okay for Batman to do but GOD forbid Superman gets too?

And why are we "idiots"? Is it wrong we have high hopes for DC movies?

It was a decent movie. I enjoyed it more after I watched it a couple of times. Me and my brother watched it (he hates GL for the most part) and said "When does it start to suck again?" When we first saw it in theaters, we were pretty "meh" about it... After a few more viewings, it's aight. Probably because I know what not to expect out of it. Being the "space-opera" they all said it was.

It's a decent super hero film, IMO.

It was a hell of a lot better than First Class... pretty much any complaints I hear about GL could apply to First Class... except tenfold. I am excited for them to make a GL sequel (whenever it happens).
