Alan Taylor Apologizes For Remarks About Mid-Credits Tag For THOR: THE DARK WORLD

After declaring he was very happy not to take credit for the mid-credits teaser, the director of Thor: The Dark World now retracts his comments, while James Gunn weighs in and more. Check it out!

In a rather abnormal manner, Thor: The Dark World director Alan Taylor previously expressed that he wasn't fond of the sequel's mid-credits scene, which was directed by Guardians of the Galaxy helmer James Gunn. Taylor not only said he would have “shot it differently,” but also that it's “the only part of the film where I’m happy to give the credit away.” Well, an overlooked video has been brought to my attention (via @TheThorverine), where Taylor retracts his comments and apologizes.

James Gunn, meanwhile, has acknowledged Alan Taylor's apology via his Facebook profile. “Alan has apologized profusely both personally to me and to the press. He's a good guy,” Gunn noted. The Guardians of the Galaxy director also revealed that the Thor: The Dark World mid-credits stinger was “essentially” a daily right from set. “It was shot in two hours at the end of a 2nd unit day. We had just gotten the script (not by me). We thought it was more important to give people a link to Guardians, but weren't able to do it until the last minute,” he explained.

In other Guardians of the Galaxy news, many fans have been longing for the Comic-Con footage to be officially released even though James Gunn has said that it would never be. Well, it seems one Facebook user didn't get the message, and prompted the director to post the following: “Listen, I love it. But it was thrown together after 12 days of shooting, a mix of shots, makeup tests, and camera tests. The visual effects (especially Rocket and Groot) were temps at best. Our 'Nebula' isn't even Karen Gillan in the footage, but a girl we were testing Karen's makeup on. So although it perfectly captures the flavor of the film, there's no way it would hold up to the scrutiny that comes with posting something like that on the internet - nor would the general audience be able to understand 'these are just temps and comps and makeup tests.' So it is never ever going to happen, except for maybe on the Blu-Ray AFTER the film comes out.”

“Guardians of the Galaxy,” the next epic adventure from Marvel Studios, is directed by James Gunn from his screenplay, with a story by Nicole Perlman and Gunn, and the film will introduce audiences to a whole new side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The all-star cast includes Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, two-time Academy Award nominee Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Academy Award® winner Benicio del Toro as The Collector, Academy Award nominee John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, and six-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close as Nova Prime, with Vin Diesal as Groot and Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” is scheduled for release August 1, 2014!

The after credits scene was a little....weird. I liked Benicio as The Collector but the tone just felt off to me.

Glad he made amends. It was a harsh thing to say.

No apologies need to be made for IM3. Lots of people love it. Some don't, it's the same with any movie. Let it go children.

He was just pissed that he didn't film it himself. One of the highlights of Thor 2 was that beautiful scene.

And no apology is needed for Iron Man 3. The best of the Iron Man solos

he should've mentioned Slither, not Super. Super didn't suck too bad, but it pales in comparison.

Jet lag? That's the dumbest excuse I've ever heard for criticizing something. I smell very ominous, yet "gentle" threats from Marvel are responsible for this.

Marvel should be apologizing to Taylor for cutting up his movie. Not that more time would have made it good, but still.

The tone for the mid credit scene was weird to say the least. I personally liked it and I like the direction that GOTG will be based on that scene.

Though I do see some people being turned off with that style. Anyways looking forward GOTG!

You know what I just got back from Thor 2 about an hour ago, First off It is my opinion that if Marvel didn't interfere with his direction it would have been a phenomenal movie. But you can tell there were re shoots and stuff cut out of the movie to save time.
Also, I thought the credits scene was almost laughable. Del Toro just came off as down right silly.

I am really hoping for a director's cut, and that GOTG isn't anything like that scene.

@ Patriautism

I hate to tell you but that is going to be the tone of GOTG. It is going to be space meets psychedelic mushrooms. Also it is going to be very colorful etc .......

I think part of the mid credits scene problem was the difference in tone Gunn struck from the Thor film. Gunn's style was a little more whimsical than what Gunn was trying to go for. So it was a contrast of styles. But both worked well IMO.

I'm glad him came forward and apologized. He's not a fanboy on the net. I don't have a problem with him not liking it but as a profession you don't put another professional on blast like he did. I love Alan's work but he was wrong in this case and he was man enough to realize that and apologize. I'm moving on from with the rest of the adults.

As far as the mid credit scene goes, it was weird. Del Toro is going to be a crazy Collector. GotG is going to be a really differnet film. I can't wait to see if they can pull it off.

BTW, the CA:WS trailer looked great on the big screen.

This scene was rather strange, and Collector's assistaints looks like alitn-monkeys... it was terrible to watch on them and their make-up. I'd like to wee how Lee Pace will look in the movie...

The scene has the feel of a 70's Doctor Who episode. Hope the movie GOTG is way better. It was my least favorite part of Thor . The final scene after the credits should have been the mid credit scene and the after credit scene "The Collector."
