Who was the character Rocket hugs in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer? To answer that question, you need to take something of a deep dive into the comics as that's Lady Lylla, a sapient otter and Rocket Raccoon's soulmate.
Her brief appearance seemed to show them being reunited, though poor Lylla has clearly been put through the wringer. Her entire arm looks robotic, and we wouldn't be shocked if she's one of the High Evolutionary's many discarded experiments. The question is, could she be Rocket's shot at a happy ending?
We'd like to think so, and it would be a lot of fun seeing her join this team and take on a more active role in the Guardians than her comic book counterpart.
Rumours the character would appear in the threequel persisted for months prior to that confirmation, as have claims Joker: Folie a Deux's Harley Quinn, Lady Gaga, will voice the hero.
She's a huge star and reuniting the singer and actress with A Star is Born's Bradley Cooper would be a great way to generate headlines. Unfortunately. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn has now debunked those rumours while answering fan questions on Instagram.
Asked if the mystery actress' name starts with "Ga" and ends with "Ga," the filmmaker simply said, "It does not."
That's a shame, but we're sure Gunn has found a suitably impressive name to bring Lady Lylla to life on screen. It could be someone he's worked with before or another A-Lister, and we'd say The Suicide Squad or Peacemaker star Jennifer Holland would be a pretty solid pick!
In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, our beloved band of misfits are looking a bit different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives in theaters on May 5, 2023.
