At the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Peter Quill got his hands on a Zune. That means he now has access to a whole host of new tunes, but a recent rumour suggested his time on Earth in Avengers: Endgame may have seen Star-Lord take some present-day tracks back into outer space with him.
Well, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 writer and director James Gunn was quick to debunk that earlier today, confirming that any songs we hear in the threequel will come directly from the Zune.
Gunn has always been honest with fans on social media, so we're definitely not expecting to hear any modern tracks in the upcoming movie. The filmmaker has said on multiple occasions that there's no way Quill would have wanted to stick around on his home planet after Thanos was defeated, though it's currently unclear whether he'll once again visit Earth during Thor: Love and Thunder.
Oh, and for those of you who have been reading this article asking yourselves, "What the heck is a Zune?", they were a line of iPod wannabes produced by Microsoft from November 2006 until its discontinuation in June 2012. They were, however, capable of holding tens of thousands of songs, meaning Star-Lord now has access to a much wider selection of catchy tunes moving forward.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to be released in theaters on May 5, 2023.
