GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Director James Gunn Confirms The Timeline Of The Marvel Threequel

In the midst of some talk about the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie taking place before the events of Avengers: Infinity War, director James Gunn has taken to Twitter to set the record straight...

In an attempt to make fans believe that the superhero body-count in Avengers: Infinity War will stick, several people involved with the Marvel epic - including writers Steve McFeely and Christopher Markus - have suggested that some of the upcoming sequels that have already greenlit could feature new takes on the heroes, or be set before "The Snap."

More recently, Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo and star Chris Pratt have echoed this, insinuating that the upcoming GOTG Vol. 3 could be a prequel.

Well, just in case you may have been taken in by that, here's the film's director to set things straight:

No big surprise there - though it is interesting that Gunn isn't playing coy about this like some of his colleagues. Perhaps he's simply aware that nobody would buy it!

Now, if we could just get confirmation that an Andy Griffith hologram and The Blue Man Group won't be replacing the core team members...

@RocknRolla - Not sure why people are even second guessing this. We all know that the heroes will return and the villains and there will 1 more final showdown between the heroes and Wakanda and Thanos, Black Order and the Outriders. If not, this was a waste of time building to almost nothing.

There has to be the ultimate ending we're all waiting for. It harkens back to what Cap said to Tony in Age of Ultron when Tony said "That's the end game. How do you expect to beat that?" and Cap replied saying "Together!"

@RocknRolla - Yeah. And I'm getting people saying that this is some kind of a spoiler. Like, really? The most obvious path for the movie to go in is a spoiler?

@Origame - Nobody's saying that.

@Nebula - I literally got that in the comments of the article about Chris Pratt saying it could be a prequel.

Yeah I thought the first time I saw IW I teared up several times cause of a rough week. Well... saw it again today... And I can confirm I am a enormous puss.

@Imfunnyhow - I literally saw the film today (my third time), and I was surprised at the amount of people in the theater getting emotional at the end. I guess some people somehow avoided spoilers.

No surprise here.

I'll bet Gamora stays dead and the team, especially Peter, spend the majority of Vol. 3 still trying to cope with it.

Maybe that's what Gunn meant when he said Vol. 3 would be heavily Gamora-centered.

It seems Gunn respects the intelligence of the fans

I think new recruits will be coming in Vol 3. Mainly one or two members to replace Gamora (I think she stays dead).

Quasar

And/or Moondragon hopefully

Or Both

@BlackBeltJones - I’ve always liked the Wendell Vaughn version of Quasar more. Phylla was waaay cooler as an avatar of Death
