GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Director James Gunn Debunks Claims Daniela Melchior Will Play Moondragon

With The Suicide Squad star Daniela Melchior now officially part of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 cast, James Gunn has acted quickly to debunk popular theories she will play Moondragon in the movie.

James Gunn introduced the world to a new megastar in Daniela Melchior when he cast the relatively unknown actress as Ratcatcher 2 in The Suicide Squad, and she's now set to make the leap to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has now wrapped, but photos Melchior shared to social media undergoing some early prosthetics work a while back have once again come under close scrutiny. As a result, there's renewed speculation all over social media that Gunn might have cast her to play Moondragon in the Marvel Studios threequel.

It would be awesome to see, but the director has now debunked those claims!

In the comic books, Moondragon is the daughter of Drax (there's a lot more to it than that, but trust us when we say it gets really complicated). She's also a powerful telekinetic and telepath, and has a history with the Infinity Stones, not to mention ties to the Guardians and Adam Warlock

It's a shame Melchior won't be playing Moondragon, though we're sure Gunn has found a great role for her in this conclusion to the trilogy that kicked off with 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy. What that will be remains to be seen, of course, and we can only speculate for the time being.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to be released in theaters on May 5, 2023.

''I said she wasn’t Moondragon. That is still true.''

Think is the third time already he says she isn't Moondragon (but is part of the cast). So either Gunn is lying, or people still don't get it.

Anyway, I'm hoping for Phyla-Vell, but I can see her as Black Swan as well.

I love how much Gunn constantly embarrasses these dumb fan pages

Considering Pom's appearance in Suicide Squad I really don't know why people are expecting anything more than Background Extra #4.

I know Gunn has repeatedly said she's not Moondragon but I really hope he's lying/bending the truth (like she's not CALLED Moondragon and she has a different name because she's not human like in the comics) but if this really is Gunn's last GOTG and presumably Dave Bautista's last a time playing Drax then it's the perfect time to resolve his series arc by revealing that his daughter is alive, because it wouldn't really make sense to introduce her without him, and Daniela Melchior would be the perfect choice for that role (I could totally see her playing Bautista's daughter).

Either that or we get a different Moondragon introduced from the multiverse in a reality where Drax was a human 🤷

If we're losing some of the OG Guardians in Vol 3 then I'm gonna make an educated guess at the new roster going forward:

- Star Lord (I could see Chris Pratt sticking around for the right deal/script)
- Adam Warlock
- Groot (doubt they'd kill him off for a third time plus I'm sure Vin would come back if asked, and if not he's probably the easiest one to recast)
- Mantis (feels like we've barely scratched the surface with her character and she's most recently introduced member as of Vol 2)
- "Moondragon" (or whoever the equivalent MCU character is if my highly unlikely theory is at all true)

On the fence about Gamora, Nebula, and Rocket, could see this movie ending their arcs but could also see them returning.

Probably leaving: Drax (feel like Bautista's done with the role), Kraglin (feel like Sean Gunn is less likely to stick around if his brother leaves)

@AC1 - Totally agree with the Moondragon points. She is a cool, unique character and this is the time to bring her in.

I can get down with it. Phyla-vell a good choice too.

I feel like Gunn is being cryptic. Maybe she just doesn't claim the mantle of 'Moondragon' until further down the MCU line.
