GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Recasts Miley Cyrus' MCU Role With LOKI Star Tara Strong

It's been confirmed today that Marvel Studios has replaced Miley Cyrus as the Ravager Mainframe in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, with Loki star Tara Strong stepping in to lend her voice to the character.

Loki and Batman: The Animated Series star Tara Strong recently confirmed that she has a role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but the prolific voice actress won't be playing a new character.

Instead, a press release sent out by Disney reveals Strong is replacing Miley Cyrus as Mainframe. The singer and actress first lent her voice to the original Guardian in one of Vol. 2's post-credits scenes, but for whatever reason, won't be back for this threequel. Writer and director James Gunn might choose to share some details about the change on social media, though we're guessing this came down to scheduling or money.

Cyrus only had a single line for her uncredited 2017 MCU debut, so the change isn't overly surprising in many ways.

We know Sylvester Stallone will return as Stakar Ogord in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, while Michael Rosenbaum is back as Martinex (who now looks a lot more like the Smallville alum than he did six years ago). Beyond them and Mainframe, we don't know who else from that team of Ravagers will appear.

Strong, who voices Miss Minutes in Loki, isn't the first actress to have more than one MCU role. Elsewhere in this movie, Laura Barton/Mockingbird actress Linda Cardellini - who starred in Gunn's Scooby-Doo movies - is lending her voice to Rocket's love interest, Lylla!

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, our beloved band of misfits are looking a bit different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.

Gunn writes and directs Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter, and Maria Bakalova.

Kevin Feige is the producer and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt, and Sara Smith serve as executive producers.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives in theaters on May 5, 2023.
