The Guardians of the Galaxy movies have some of the best soundtracks of any franchise, comic book or otherwise, and we finally have Vol. 3's "Awesome Mix Vol. 3."

Radiohead, Rainbow, The Flaming Lips, Beastie Boys, Florence and the Machine, and Bruce Springsteen are among those who have contributed tunes to the upcoming threequel and James Gunn has knocked this soundtrack out of the park. What do these songs tell us about the movie? It's hard to say without context, but there are some emotional tracks here!

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 tickets are now on sale and we're just a month or so out from getting to see a movie we hope will put the MCU back on the right track. Of course, it will also mark Gunn's Marvel Studios farewell as next up for him is Superman: Legacy and his new job as DC Studios co-CEO.

Check out the full "Awesome Mix Vol. 3." soundtrack below along with a new Dolby-exclusive poster.

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, our beloved band of misfits are looking a bit different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.

Gunn writes and directs Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter, and Maria Bakalova.

Kevin Feige is the producer and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt, and Sara Smith serve as executive producers.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives in theaters on May 5, 2023.

The music selection for the first 2 volumes was so good. I think i’m a bit more skeptical here because it’s newer stuff that I’m more familiar with, but i’ll give it a listen to see how it flows then the most important part is how it fits into the movie.

@mountainman - The Wilson sisters and Bruce say “hi” from the 70s. Some of it a lot newer though..

Not my type of music for the most part just like the other guardians movies. Unpopular opinions: I enjoyed the music from the first suicide squad way more than the guardians

@MyCoolYoung - I'm willing to give you a pass for that..

..but only if you agree that the Guardians movies used songs way more effectively in it's narrative than Suicide Squad did.

@bkmeijer1 - suicide squad tried to be guardians with their songs but didn’t have a narrative reason to even include them lol so that’s easy. Making music essential to Peter’s arc was smart

@MyCoolYoung - exactly. Suicide Squad could've atleast used songs to progress the story in some way, but they didn't even attempt that.

Giving music a narrative reason to be there is something Gunn really does well. Many (non-musical) movies can learn from that (except Shrek).

@bkmeijer1 - except Shrek is hilarious. But yes, James is great at that. Credit to Chris Pratt as well for selling the emotional connection well

@MyCoolYoung - exactly. Shrek is the only one that gets a pass from me. All other movies using pop songs can learn something from Gunn though.

And yeah, the cast definitely helps sell the emotional connection.

@MyCoolYoung - okay. Small rectification: Into the Spider-Verse also gets a pass. That What's Up Danger moment rules

@bkmeijer1 - creed 1 did a really good job incorporating music into the movie. It’s one aspect that I love about it and helped sell Donnie and Bianca relationship

@MyCoolYoung - oh yeah, that made it an extension of the characters as well. Probably a few more movies that I forget about that would get a pass too
