British actor Will Poulter (The Revenant, The Maze Runner) has joined the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as Adam Warlock.
A rumor that Poulter had landed the role did the rounds online over the weekend, and since director James Gunn usually debunks false reports on social media, this one gained a bit of traction when he didn't weigh in. Now, Deadline has made the news official.
Apparently, Gunn and Marvel Studios execs began a lengthy search for someone to take on the role at the end of August, with several other actors in contention, including Rege-Jean Page and George MacKay.
Warlock was first teased in one of several post-credits scenes for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 back in 2017 when we saw Sovereign High Priestess Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) introduce the birthing pod containing "the next step in our evolution," who she names Adam. How the character will factor into the plot of Vol. 3 remains to be seen, but we assume he'll be out for revenge against the Guardians at Ayesha's behest.
Story details are still under wraps, but we do know that Gamora will be a big part of the movie, and it sounds like her relationship with Nebula is going to be the main focus. The original Gamora was sacrificed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, and the version who'll be reintroduced in Vol. 3 killed her timeline's Nebula in Endgame. So, it's probably safe to assume we can expect a unique dynamic between the characters we reconnect with in what has been confirmed as Gunn's final GOTG film.
We're sure the filmmaker will share more details soon, but for now, all we know for certain is that the core team will return for more intergalactic adventures, and there's a pretty good chance not all of 'em will make it to the end credits!
Production is expected to commence this November. What do you guys make of this casting news? Drop us a comment down below.
