Not long after finding out the premise of John Krasinski's recent horror film
A Quiet Place you most likely had the same thought that crossed everybody else's minds: What about farts?
With the film depicting a world in which creatures will brutally attack based on even the most subtle of unnatural sounds, the question quickly made its way to its star/director - who revealed that it was actually something he and his co-stars discussed on-set.
Here's what Krasinski told
Empire, during their podcast:
[Young star of the film; Noah Jupe] was our sounding board for a lot of this. He said, 'What happens if we need to cough?' And I said, 'Well you guys would know to pick up a pillow and cough into the pillow' […] I only imagine now little Noah putting a pillow on his behind and farting into a pillow, knowing that it would save his life. Just try to crop-dust, as long as they're not loud and violent you're going to be fine.
It's not particularly spellbinding, but knowing that the predicament was discussed during production certainly makes you appreciate the effort and world-building behind the film even more. Krasinski also recently revealed some more fascinating and in-depth world-building, in regards to the creatures' origins, which you can check out here.
So, that's how coughs, farts, sneezes, hiccups, or any other involuntary bodily noises would be handled within the film's intriguing and unique apocalypse. Perhaps in one of the supposedly planned sequels we'll see a, mundane to us, involutary noise present a real problem to the film's characters.
What do you think? Are there any other intriguing inconsistences that came to mind whilst you were watching the film? Comment them below, and perhaps we can figure out a solution together.
