BOX OFFICE: ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER Flops With Unimpressive $6.3M Opening

While yesterday's early estimates were spot on when it comes to how well Pixar's Brave looks set to perform in North America this weekend, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter now looks set to be yet another 2012 critical and commercial flop.

Yesterday's estimate that Brave would have an opening weekend of 60+ million was spot on, as The Hollywood Reporter now reveals that it looks set to finish with a total of more than $66M. After topping the North American box office yesterday with an impressive $24.5 million, Pixar's latest animated feature will take the #1 spot this weekend, while Madagascar 3 will easily nab second place. Down in third is Timur Bekmambetov's critically panned Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Despite it seemingly heading towards a debut of between $20 million - $25 million, a paltry £6.3 million on Friday means that it will more than likely finish at only $16M. The film cost $68M to make, so its success may play a big role in whether or not rival studio Lionsgate decide to continue working on Seth Grahame-Smith's (who wrote the film and novel it is based on) Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Is anyone surprised? I mean it's Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter! That doesn't exactly scream cinematic masterpiece.

When I first saw a trailer for that movie, I started laughing and thought it was a joke, it looks horrible. Not surprised it flopped at all. To be honest with all these movies flopping as bad as they are, it does seem like people are waiting for certain movies, be it Spider-Man or Dark Knight Rises.

I saw ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER, and loved it. Yeah, it's a silly concept but it was pulled off seriously. I will say it came up a bit short in the humor dept. It was a packed house and nobody in the theater was talking or playing w/ they're phones, that's when you know your in a good movie, wen the audience gives it their undivided attention. BRAVE is doing better because it is a kids movie and adults have to shell out nearly twice, and sometimes three times, as much for tickets to get in. I haven't seen BRAVE yet, but I plan to, it looks great!!

Was always going to be a gamble with this level of a spoof in the myriad of vampire stuff already out there regardless of how popular the book was.

@ceelay in publishing is even worse. After twilight sagas are only about vampires and damsels, demons and damsels, angels and damsels, and so on. I hope not too many films will derive from them :-D

Of course it flopped! Whoever green lit a movie called Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter needs shooting! I don't care if the novel is good or bad, you can get away with "silly" in a novel. When it comes to movies though, you need to up the game.

The title of this itself has made everyone I know smirk and ask "what the [frick]?". Then the trailers look like the god awful Van Helsing! So who's going to spend their ressession prone cash on this pile of crap?

I saw it last night and thought it was freakin awesome. The 3D was used great. I was thoroughly entertained. And I completely agree with Dispatcher, it was leaps and bounds ahead of Resident Evil and Underworld. It'll be a damn shame if this movie doesn't get it's due.

does anyone realize abraham lincoln vampire hunter was a new york times bestselling novel that was amazing read...why not make it into a movie, whether the movie cinematically was well done is a different story but book was amazing so get ur heads out of ur backsides

It was actually really good summer escapism. This flick got trashed before it had a chance...like John Carter. Too bad.

The book is extremely good, but unfortunately it was hacked to pieces in the movie. In the novel, Lincoln is not the equivalent of an axe-wielding ninja, and the ending is different and far superior. Sure it's a weird concept for a story, but like most things, the book works and is infinitely better. I saw the movie yesterday, and despite all the changes it was still enjoyable. It is what it is. Just read the book before pissing on the concept.

If the movie was as good as the book then word of mouth would have propelled this to some very high numbers. Unfortunately they removed a few chapters from the movie and changed a lot making it historically inaccurate. It was a good action/vampire flick but nothing compared to the amazingness that is the book.

ALVH... the book really isn't that good either... should never have been made! Make a Robert Jordan Wheel of Time epic and you have about 6 movies with a story deep and captivating!

the trailer shows Abe doing kung fu..fu***ng KUNG FU!!! it's BEYOND laughable...

but, i agree with a reviewer who said that it mighta worked better if they kept it grounded in reality. and Timur's style which worked all so perfectly for Wanted just didn't jell with this story, AT ALL.

Abe's an historical figure..so, even with him dealing with the vamps, we gotta BELIEVE that those bloodsuckas BELONG in our world. and the slo-mos and the kung fu chop sueys just don't make the whole thing look real.

like John fu***ng Carter, this one already looks like a HUGE bomb a million miles away.
