David Gordon Green's Halloween was supposed to begin filming this past October, but production was reportedly delayed according to a new report citing "multiple sources." Filming is now expected to begin in mid-January 2018.
No confirmed reason for the delay has been given, but Bloody Disgusting speculates it could have something to do with casting. Jamie Lee Curtis will return as Laurie Strode, with Judy Greer in talks to play Laurie's daughter, Karen Strode; but, there's still plenty of croles to be filled. This is seemingly supported by a casting call in South Carolina's The Island Packet, which calls for extras of all races and ages, as well as "real police officers, EMTs, nurses, CSI investigators, photographers and a coroner." The casting call also mentions filming is now expected to start in mid-January.
With filming delayed until the beginning of next year, hopefully it won't impact Universal's planned October 19, 2018 release date for Halloween as that would mean missing a huge marketing opportunity for the studio.
David Gordon Green's Halloween is being co-written by Danny McBride, and will take place following the events of John Carpenter's 1978 slasher film, ignoring all of the other sequels. Specific plot details are still being kept under wraps, but Laurie Stode is said to come to her final confrontation with the masked killer Michael Myers. Original Halloween creator/director John Carpenter is executive producing and scoring the new film.
