Some head-spinning news for horror fans here!
David Gordon Green's upcoming Exorcist movie - which has been confirmed to serve as a direct sequel to William Friedkin's original horror classic - is bringing back the pea-soup-spewing devil child herself, Regan MacNeil.
According to Above the Line, Linda Blair is set to reprise her most famous role as the girl who found herself possessed by a sadistic demon known as Pazuzu. Apparently, Blair was only on set for a few days, so probably won't have a major part to play in the story.
The actress also served as an advisor on the film, which wrapped production earlier this month.
The new Exorcist trilogy will feature Ellen Burstyn as Regan's mother, Chris MacNeil, along with new cast members Leslie Odom Jr., Ann Dowd, Lidya Jewett, Jennifer Nettles, Olivia Marcum, Raphael Sbarge, and Okwui Okpokwasili.
There was a lot of support for Green taking the helm of this new trilogy when the well-received Halloween 2018 was released, but after Kills and Ends... not so much! Now, fans are more than a little worried about what the director has planned.
Widely considered one of the scariest movies ever made, The Exorcist focused on a possessed young girl (Blair) and her mother's (Burstyn) attempts to free her from the grip of the demon with the help of two priests (Jason Miller and Max Von Sydow).
Of course, the movie already has two sequels. The first, John Boorman's surreal The Heretic, was critically panned and actually had very little to do with the events of the first film. However, William Peter Blatty's The Exorcist III (based on his novel Legion) was a lot better, and served as a more direct follow-up to the 1973 classic.
What do you guys make of this development? Do you think it's a good idea to have an adult Regan be part of the sequel? Drop us a comment down below.
