Next Friday, James Wan (Aquaman; Furious 7) returns to his roots and introduces the world to a whole new vision in terror with his latest horror film Malignant, which will debut simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max on September 10.
While plot details are understandably vague, the movie synopsis reads, "Madison is paralyzed by shocking visions of grisly murders, and her torment worsens as she discovers that these waking dreams are in fact terrifying realities."
The film, which was written by Akela Cooper (M3GAN; The Nun 2), stars Annabelle Wallis (Annabelle; The Mummy), Maddie Hasson (Impulse; Mr. Mercedes), George Young (Containment; Grace), Michole Briana White (Black Mafia Family; Dead to Me), Jacqueline McKenzie (Palm Beach, Reckoning), Jake Abel (Supernatural; Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief) and Ingrid Bisu (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, The Nun).
This will be the first horror film Wan has directed in five years, his last being 2016's The Conjuring 2. Over the course of his career, he's also launched the Saw and Insidious franchises, but has recently leaned more towards blockbuster filmmaking with titles such as Furious 7 and Aquaman. He's currently hard at work on the latter's follow-up, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which is due out in theaters December 2022.
