@manofsuperguy

***spoilers****

he thought that if the survival of humanity depended on this ritual and that was all keeping the elder gods at bay, then what was the point?

i don't know what you mean about 'the point of staying alive' - for who? literally everyone in the film died.

I wanted to like this movie but it wasn't scary at all. I thought it was going to be a horror movie first with some comedy here and there, but it was just a comedy to me at best. Best part was the unicorn killing.

This movie was fantastic! It was a spoof all the way through! Did you catch the part where the guy was wondering why Chris Hemsworth was acting like such an "alpha male" when he was just a biology major or whatever. Every second of that movie was a spoof on cliche horror. BRILLIANT MOVIE!!!!!

I'm with @BattlinMurdock and @ELgUaSoN on this. I saw the film and it was pretty good. Actually, better than I thought it would be. I liked the jabs that this movie was pulling with all the horror flick cliches (the blonde b!tch is the on that dies first, but in this film the blonde was actually a brunnette who was actually smart; the jock is always the douche in the film, but in this one he's the exact opposite; and all the generic horror monsters in this film were pretty much like jabs at other horror monsters). Again, a cool flick, but the ending was pretty much a WTF moment for me. :P

@ManofSuperGuy: People who aren't getting certain events in the film are missing the metaphor. The entire film is a metaphor that plays on the cliched tropes we've all come to know and, apparently, expect.

Why didn't the girl didn't just kill the guy and save the world? That's asking for the cliched ending and now you're apparently feeling that the entire film is off somehow because they didn't go there. As such, you are rejecting the film.

Think about that for a moment and then consider what is happening in the film. The technicians are the movie makers. They need to create a ritualistic grand performance, meaning certain things have to happen a certain way else the Old Gods, who have become desensitized to the old rituals, will not be entertained and reject the sacrifice.

The betting pool? Filmmakers are always hoping on what new trend or monster will be popular. The pheromones and alterations the technicians were making? Scripts never go directly from pen to film; there are always re-writes, even during filming, and studio interference (the phone call from "upstairs").

In that context, who do you think the Old Gods represent in the metaphor? Us; we're the Old Gods desensitized by decades of cinema, no longer satisfied by simple plot lines (a girl in a volcano, for instance) yet still requiring ritualistic cliches else we reject it (the hand coming out to obliterate the movie's world).

By demanding (in a manner of speaking) a cliched ending and not getting one, you've completed the metaphor by "[liking] it until [you] reached the end". The ritual (the cliches) were not complete and thus you've rejected the filmmakers sacrifice.

movie sucked... don't get why people think it was a "great movie" while it was a big dog shit.
