We're living in scary times right now, and while there is light at the end of the tunnel thanks to the COVID-19 vaccines which are starting to be distributed, the virus promises to continue making headlines for many years to come. We're also starting to see its impact in the entertainment world, and Safer at Home looks set to be one of the first movies acknowledging the pandemic.
Heading our way from Vertical Entertainment, the project looks set to make good use of Zoom (haven't we all over the past year or so?), with director Will Wernick taking a new and unique approach to filmmaking in an era where a traditional shoot is definitely easier said than done.
Taking place two years into the pandemic, Safer at Home follows a group of friends who throw an online party with a night of games, drinking and drugs. After taking an ecstasy pill, things go terribly wrong and the safety of their home becomes more terrifying than the raging chaos outside.
Unbelievably, the team behind this one (Wernick penned the screenplay with Lia Bozonelis, while the former produced alongside John Ierardi and Bo Youngblood) managed to make and distribute it in less than a year. The cast, meanwhile, includes Jocelyn Hudon, Emma Lahana, Alisa Allapach, Adwin Brown, Dan J. Johnson, Michael Kupisk, and Daniel Robaire.
Safer at Home is set to be released in select theaters, VOD & Digital on February 26, 2021.
