Marvel Studios’ “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, “Iron Man 3” is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce and Shane Black and is based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of “Tales of Suspense” (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with “The Invincible Iron Man” (#1) in May of 1968.

“Iron Man 3” is presented by Marvel Studios in association with Paramount Pictures and DMG Entertainment. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing and Jon Favreau, Louis D'Esposito, Stephen Broussard, Victoria Alonso, Alan Fine, Charles Newirth, Stan Lee and Dan Mintz are executive producers. The film releases May 3, 2013, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Just got back from the early 9:00PM showing and I have to say, the hate for this flick is well underserved!!!

I knew the twist, knew the plot, watched the bootleg and even still, up on the big screen in FULL CONTEXT, completely fleshed out, this was easily the best of the three.

Wasn't perfect by any means, and yes, we did miss out on a potentially AMAZING Mandarin (real, Mandarin), but as a stand alone film, awesome!

Well done, Guy.

And awesome job, Big G on the interviews. Keep em' coming!

Yes the film was amazing but I'm still pissed from the Mandarin and I guess Tony not Iron Man I don't get it there's too many questions.

Side this movie was not well done. The fact that the director had a stupi twist mandarin was a horrible villan in this movie. When in comics he is a worthy enemy. What a way to say f-u to a the comic lovers. I just really was disappointment with this movie not worth this big hype. Almost as bad as IM2. This movie is just an insult to all of us.

Damn....I've been reading comics since the late 90's and I have to say, I thought I was a fanboy. Some of the newbies on this site are absolutely brutal.

Just saw it and I loved it, not quite as much as the first but it was still great, and looking at it from just the movie stand point I thought the twist was fantastic and was a great risk to go in that direction, but from a fan of the Iron Man comics point of view there is a part of me that wishes he was a bit more like the traditional Mandarin. Either way it's a fantastic flick and a great start to phase 2.

Great interview, Galactus. Mr. Pearce looks like he's a great guy!

Spoilers ahead.

And about the character, I don't think Shane Black messed anything up. If you want a Mandarin that is a full menace from beginning till end, you've had it: It's Killian. He's claimed himself to be the Mandarin - whether it is just symbolically basing on his actions or he is indeed the Mandarin himself is up for debate, but there you have it. Sure, that means that he becomes a Killian/Mallen/Mandarin combo in it, but the point stays, and the purpose of the character stays true. And moreover, Ben Kingsley is NOT the Mandarin; he's Trevor Slattery, that's it. Trevor may play the Mandarin, but Sir Kingsley has never been cast as the character, so nothing is truly screwed up. Y'know, he can't be a "horrible" villain, if he's never been a villain at all. If you complain about it being totally different than what the clips and trailers showed us, then...well, it's a twist! You don't want everything to just be revealed there, don't you?

It just felt like the first third of this movie was amazing, and had so much promise, but they just.. took all the grounded parts away. Rhodey taking out so many extremis guys on his own, but Iron Man has so much trouble..? It became too '80's action movie' in too many spots, there was humor in too many spots, and I just didn't feel connected to anything after a certain point.

Saw the 9 pm show very good movie despite the twist the action scences were the best I've seen in a while and Ben Kingsley steals every scene he's in

Also, all the amazing quotations and lines from the trailers that made it look so promising weren't even in the movie,

Kind of like the Amazing Spider-Man.

I'm torn. I need to se edit again. I don't like the mandarin twist but now that I know it's coming I might be able to look at the movie differently and like it better. I think Marvel had a lot of balls to do the twist though, knowing they would piss off the main fan base and hope that main steam audiences like it. I guess the gambled and won cause the movie is reviewing higher then iron man 2 and is making a TON of money. I'm sure ill like it better on a second viewing.

@Jolt17 You're totally right. I like how The Mandarin was more of a symbol than an actual being, and Guy Pearce did a fantastic job.

I'm havin a hard time swallowing this movie. It was freakin great up until he made it to the snowy forest, then it got mediocore on me and then the Mandarin thing happened, and that kinda 'spoiled the milk' to me. Wish they had given him the proper respect a villain of his status deserved from start to finish.
superherofan21
superherofan21 - 5/2/2013, 10:59 PM
@Jolt EXACTLY! I couldn't have said it better myself. I fully agree with your reasoning. I always thought Killian was a lot like Mandarin.

I loved this movie.
IMO the best of the 3 IM films
REALY can't understand some of the criticism
And you can see a lot has been pulled or inspired by the comics
Caught the IM marathon and it was great to see all of them in a row with Avengers
Jolt17
Jolt17 - 5/2/2013, 11:47 PM
Silentman, and superherofan21: Thanks! Glad to know that you guys share the same view as mine.

Dare I say, the Mandarin twist was clever, and not only Guy Pearce did a great job, but Killian himself is a great character, all in all. Yes, Sir Kingsley's Trevor Slattery is sometimes way too comedic for my liking, but his role in Killian's plot is vital, and also becomes a way to create a smart diversion: He becomes the face of terrorism, while Killian can safely mobilize his plans due to all the public's attention being aimed toward his "puppet." It's true, that a great villain doesn't need everyone's attention, and thus his plot of creating a "face" for his villainous plot is very effective, and quite brilliant.

I too just got back from an early 9:00 showing about 2 hours ago... I've already seen this whole travesty unfold.

This just goes to show how Far the AMERICAN movie industry is willing to go to get the Overseas Boxoffice money. They had an article ON THIS SITE recently talking about how the over 1 Billion population of China was about to drastically effect what went on in AMERICA's Blockbuster Movies.

If Disney/Marvel was so ready to kiss China's ass couldn't they have just not used the Mandarain at all? He's Iron Man's ARCH NEMESIS. What's next Is Magneto to be turned into a joke villian because his hollacaust backstory is too offensive?! WTF!!

I agree, the Mandarin twist was overwhelmingly disappointing. A real slap in the face to the fans who have waited years to see these characters brought to life on the big screen. Just like Bane in TDKR, or Juggernaut in X-men 3. Hollywood just loves stomping all over our beloved characters. OK, I've said my bit.

Anyone who thought this was better than IM1 must think Michael Bay movies are classics.(I actually like his movies because he isn't trying to make masterpieces) IM1 still remains the perfect origin story and 2nd best COMIC BOOK movie behind The Avengers. IM3 was a Nolan knock off and doesn't fit in the MCU that I love.

Saw the 9pm showing, and...it was good. Better than 2, but not on par with the first one. Very good action and some good humor. However, the twist royally pissed me off. That didn't completely drag down the movie though and I'm glad I saw it

Even though the main plot points seem to be spoiled by people on this site from everything i've read so far, I will say this:

If you want a really fun and gripping comic book movie, See This Movie

If you want a movie that sticks to its comic book roots, there's a lot to be disappointed about.

(Personal Note: What they do to "Mandarin" is just about as embarrassing to watch as if someone made a Batman movie that explores a sensitive and people pleasing version of the Joker)

When someone makes a comment like Thanos the most appropriate response will always be to just laugh in their face.

Anyways just got out of the 9 00 showing. Thought the movie was great. I totally understand the gripes being made but Shane black makes it all work for this film. Great acting, action, and drama.

Marvel still has a chance to clean this up if an iron man 4 is made and the mandarin could be a guy who steals the hoax idea of the fake mandarin and uses it to his advantage... But then the rings still wouldent make sense.... It just sucks that one of the most popular iron man villians was [frick]ed up

the way i look at it is..Killian was The Mandarin..the mandarin WAS in it..he was killian..and killian the mandarin...He says it.."I am the Mandarin"..so i look at it like he is the mandarin hiding in the shawows and it rocks..KILLIAN IS THE MANDARIN

Dear Marvel,

Release your movies in America along with everywhere else. Then you don't have to worry about someone spoiling the twists.

Iron Man 3 was not bad, but certainly not good. It was okay, better than the second, but pales in comparison to the first.

A solid 7.5/10.

this movie was awesome! unlike most of you guys my expectations were realistic and out of the box. first of all its SHANE BLACK. not favreau so OF COURSE its going to be different from the others. expect it and accept it. if they wanted it to be the same they would have brought back john...and questioning that is questioning marvel. and as far as im concerned they make great decisions all the time.

second the "twist" fits. you guys just let your imagination run wild and met the inevitable dissapointment. you brought it onto yourselves with your assumptions and speculation. that isnt marvels fault.

@ OptimusPrimeTime
This is what I've been telling people. Give the movie a chance. See it on the big screen not from a bootleg. Believe me the bootleg does nothing. Then make your decision. The hate is totally undeserved imo.

People, if the only thing you see in the movie is the jarring twist then I think you've missed some really good moments. You've missed out on a witty character piece about who Tony Stark is. There's some subtleties that are easily lost in the rapid fire delivery and comedy but its there.
