RUMOR: Could IRON MAN 3 Feature NAMOR: THE SUB-MARINER?

RUMOR: Could IRON MAN 3 Feature NAMOR: THE SUB-MARINER?

This may be (and probably is) just a case of wild speculation, but based on an interesting discovery at the movie's North Carolina studio there could at least be a small link to Marvel's first Mutant..

And that link is..a huge special effects water tank! Toldja it was a stretch. Still it's a slow day so why not speculate. The report comes from Comicbook.com who claim to have uncovered a bit of info relating to the North Carolina set of Iron Man 3..

..We’ve also been snooping around for any info on potential villains for Iron Man 3, but no one seems to have any official word yet. However, some things we have uncovered about the shooting location and the choice of production facility does lend itself to some rather interesting Iron Man 3 villain speculation.
While tax credits played a role in the choice of the coastal town of Wilmington, North Carolina as a filming location for Iron Man 3, the production facilities at EUE/Screen Gems Studios were also a factor. EUE/Screen Gems Studios has a 37,500 square foot sound stage that includes a special effects water tank.

Yes, it's Captain America: TFA all over again! That movie featured a scene with water, Namor must be involved right? Well there is just a bit more to go on here. We had that Namor related Easter Egg in Iron Man 2, and there is speculation that Director Shane Black may finally uncork the "Demon In A Bottle" story-line which does feature Namor. It had been assumed that we would finally get a showdown with Iron Man's most famous foe The Mandarin but Black reportedly shot that down, calling the character a "racist caricature ". Of course even if Namor does make an appearance it doesn't mean it will be as THE villain. But for now we have no real info as to which characters will or won't pop up, as I said it's all a bit of wild speculation. Still, would be pretty cool eh?

Iron Man 3: The Invincible Iron Man.
Thor 2: The Mighty Thor

Actually, the above speculation sounds plausible. If they were filming at Pinewood Studios in England, than it might be even more plausible.

Hmm...interesting. Yeah, I would prefer the Mandarin but Namor would be pretty cool to see too.

No it wont. B/c there filming at a studio that has a water tank, Iron Man is going to Atlantis? ._.

Nah! Mandarin. It has to be. It would make all the 10 Rings plot points...pointless

As a Michigander, Iron Man 3 and The Avengers were very close to filming there but b/c the state legislature restructured the movie tax-break law, Marvel decided to go somewhere cheaper. That place being North Carolina, has nothing to do with a water tank. Huge stretch.

I concur with what Dev7 are saying.

Namor is a hero and potentially getting ahead first before Aquaman.

GC, yeah like I said..it's a stretch! Doesn't mean it's not a possibility. Anyway io9 picked up on it so I figured it was worth reporting on.

Namor's going to be too busy leading the Atlantean invasion alongside Loki in a few months ;)

"Marvel wants to establish characters before just tossing them in."

You mean like Hawkeye and Black Widow? Characters have to be introduced in some manner and its not like every character has to have their own film in order to be put in a film.

That would be cool, but of course, its not going to happen.

I didn't get in on the first round of comments regarding "Mandarin as racist caricature", but he does realize that China has, in fact, been ruled by ruthless warlords for much of its history. Its just a fact.

They've already started setting up Mandarin in Iron Man with the 10 rings and all so they muuust include him, he's Iron Mans biggest arch nemesis, if they don't do it in Iron Man 3, atleeeeast use him for Iron Man 4. I don't care what Black thinks, Do it for the fans.

As someone has already mentioned can they use the term mutant with Namor? Actually come to think about does Fox have rights to the X-men and their enemies or just mutants in general.

Wait wait wait wait, let me get this straight here. So... the rumor of Namor being in Ironman 3 on account of the studio having a huge watertank is a "stretch" but not saying that the Old Boy remake will be entirely shelved on account of Spike having a project lined up before it and not being overly vocal about it so far...?

Dont get me wrong, I'd love to see Namor hit the big screen, but I think that would just kill the vibe of the iron man movies.

OK, I09 posted this article in reference to Iron Man 3, but I think we're going to see all this in the Avengers... Namor can be one of the main villains, and what we know about the "aliens" that have been theorized to be Skrulls are actually going to be the Faceless Ones, because the two maps align pretty clearly to the Lair of the Faceless Ones more than Namor's Solitary Place. In one article I don't remember because I'm drunk, someone is quoted as saying "How do you know they're aliens?"

Pussies. I'm very disappointed with the way the Iron Man series is turning out. My guess is Marvel will keep teasing the Mandarin and the Ten Rings as the group thats controlling everything but never seen. That suxxxxx. As for Namor I thought Fox owned the rights to all mutants.

Id rather see Manor in the Captain America sequel. But this sounds a little too iffy. It could be just a simple underwater scene.

@GUNSMITH:

I actually had Ian Somerhalder as Manor in a AVENGERS FANCAST I did last year. Good choice.

Not to mention Marvel owns the rights to Cable and Dazzler as well.

That could be why they have hurried this movie into production so quickly. Maybe The Avengers makes additional reference to Namor and they want him in the Avengers sequel somehow so they found a way to bring him into the spotlight through the Iron Man movie.
