JUDGE DREDD: MEGA-CITY ONE TV Series In The Works; Check Out The First Promotional Poster

Dredd may not be getting a movie sequel, but it's just been announced that a new TV series based on exploits of the double-tough lawman is on the way from IM Global Television. More past the jump.

Fans were devastated to hear that Karl Urban wouldn't be returning to play Judge Dredd in a sequel to 2012's Dredd, but it's just been announced that a new Judge Dredd: Mega-City One TV show is in the works from IM Global and independent U.K. games developer, Rebellion.

There are no names attached to star or direct just yet, but we do have a synopsis courtesy of EW:

Judge Dredd: Mega-City One is set in a future where the East Coast of the U.S. has become a crowded and crime-ridden megalopolis. It will be an ensemble drama about a team of Judges — futuristic cops invested with the power to be judge, jury, and executioner — as they deal with the challenges the future-shocked 22nd century throws at them.

The series will be produced by IM Global Television president Mark Stern, CEO Stuart Ford, and Rebellion's Jason and Chris Kingsley, who along with Ford were also executive producers on Dredd.

While it's a shame we most likley won't be seeing ol' lantern jaw bash perps on the big screen again, Judge Dredd: Mega-City One definitely sounds like it has potential. What do you guys think?

@CorndogBurglar - Is it mentioned anywhere in the article that Dredd won't be a normal part of it?

@Gamerbot64 - Yeah. Did you not read it? It says its about a team of judges as they deal with the challenges of the 22nd century. Judge Dredd isn't mentioned at all. You would think if Dredd is in it then they would mention him in the official synopsis.

@CorndogBurglar - Yeah but, isn't Dredd usually a part of a larger Judge group? Like there are more judges than him, so, idk, I would think hypothetical he would be there

Please don't be on network TV like Syfy, NBC, CBS, etc. I'd love to see this on HBO, STARZ, or Cinemax.....although i'm not sure of the TV rights and all that. Also, Urban deserves to star in this, if it is a decent budget on a big network (and if he isn't too busy.)

IF it has to be on network TV, the best and only choice is AMC to do it justice like the last movie.

@Menks123 - The producers of the show can take it anywhere that's willing to air it. The producers purchased the rights in 2000 and were the same company responsible for the 2012 movie. So I'd like to believe they want a show that's true to the comic or at least, in tone with that movie and on a network willing to honor that.

@JoeInTheBox - Ohhh, that's good news then, thanks for that info! Hopefully someone ponies up some $$$ to make it close to the comics and movie.

The last movie was an abysmal box office failure, so they should stay away from any streaming service people have to pay for.
