After the abysmal 1995 film which starred Sylvester Stallone as the iconic 2000AD character, Judge Dredd is finally getting another shot at big screen glory with Pete Travis' DREDD. After a screening at the San Diego Comic-Con last month, the reaction to the remake has been a positive one from fans and critics alike. With Karl Urban (Star Trek) in the leading role, and the promise that he won’t take the helmet off, this might just be the film that fans have been waiting for. Screenwriter Alex Garland has already revealed that he has ideas for two more films, so its fate now lies at the box office. In the following video interview with Red Carpet News, Urban talks in detail about his role in the film, and we've also provided you with an index of the topics covered below.

• 0:13 - On What Audiences Should Expect From DREDD
• 0:39 - On What Made Him Want To Be Involved With The Film
• 1:15 - On Working With Alex Garland And Cutting Down Judge Dredd's Dialogue
• 2:17 - On Whether He Met With Creator John Wagner Before Filming
• 2:32 - On His Preparation And Training For The Role
• 3:10 - On Riding The 'Lawmaster' Bike For Real Rather Than With Green Screen
• 3:49 - On Whether He Would Consider Himself To Be A Judge Dredd Geek
• 4:29 - On The Difficulty Of "Chin Acting"
• 5:11 - On What He Would Like The Audience To Take Away From DREDD

During a routine day on the job, Dredd is assigned to train and evaluate Cassandra Anderson, a rookie with powerful psychic abilities thanks to a genetic mutation. A heinous crime calls them to a neighborhood where fellow Judges rarely dare to venture- a 200 story vertical slum controlled by prostitute turned drug lord Ma-Ma and her ruthless clan. When they capture one of the clan's inner circle, Ma-Ma overtakes the compound's control center and wages a dirty, vicious war against the Judges that proves she will stop at nothing to protect her empire. With the body count climbing and no way out, Dredd and Anderson must confront the odds and engage in the relentless battle for their survival.

Not a remake. Could possibly be considered a film reboot though. It's a new adaptation of the comics.

Never read the earlier incarnations of this character but have read the cross-overs Batman vs Judge Dredd, ect. Also, LOVE the Judge Death storylines. As a relatively "virgin", so to speak, does anyone recommend me reading any of the earlier stuff?

Also, read the script for this last year. God. I am SO looking forward to this! I really enjoyed the first movie version tho, but, again, I'm not a "purist" so didn't really know the difference. I DID, however, know enough to say "WTF?! Dredd NEVER takes his helmet off!"

I guess Dredd is before my time because I am not looking forward to this movie at all. In all seriousness, the trailer looks cheesy and Michael-Bay-ish, the acting and dialogue look hammy. I mean, this "role" is a joke, just a Sly impersonation. and of course they tacked on some post-production 3D to boost the final numbers.

And why, of all movies, is Griff excited for this one? If someone isn't excited for The Avengers and TDKR and is excited for this loud obnoxious crapfest i'm going to seriously question their judgment.

If you don't like a badass super cop who brutally kills guilty scumbag criminals then you have a vagina...& if you have a vagina let's meet sometime.

Or you can just read some Judge Dredd comics..c'mon people movies are great but many times fall short..read a damn comic, they are escapist fun reading.

Hopefully this movie kicks ass.

@ jimoakley666: Prove me wrong! I would happily retract my words if I could understand why Dredd gets everyone in such a fanboy feeding frenzy. From where I sit, it seems like another doomed faux-action remake that'll be in the Wal-Mart $5 bin within 9 months.

@Moriarty117
Hey,what's your problem? The Stallone Dredd was weak & Dredd deserves to be done better.
Judge Dredd is a cool character.
Hopefully this movie will do it.

Same with The Punisher movies, parts of those films are good but as a whole they haven't done the job..I say keep making em til they get it right..worked for Batman.

Is it possible for anybody to somehow fuse the images of both Sly and Karl's versions of Dredd into one image?
Like Sly's chin under Urban's helmet on Sly's torso but with Urban's waist and legs? I'm just super curious to see something like that.

@ sameoldthing: u mad? Lol. In all seriousness, I hope the movie is good and does the comic books juctice and makes some decent money. I'm always in support of CBMs.

This film will be leagues ahead of ASM and TDKR in quality, but I know for a fact that it will make less than half as much. Too bad.
