JUSTICE LEAGUE: WARWORLD Plot Synopsis, First Look, And Cast Revealed; Jensen Ackles Will Return As Batman

The Hollywood Reporter (via Toonado.com) has revealed a first look at Justice League: Warworld, while also sharing both the synopsis and cast for the upcoming DC/Warner Bros. Animation movie.

The Boys and Supernatural star Jensen Ackles will lead the cast as Batman/Officer Wayne, with Darren Criss as Superman/Agent Kent and Stana Katic as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince. What's the deal with those bizarre designations?

Well, at the end of Legion of Super-Heroes, the Dark Knight and Man of Steel were shown inspecting a crater in Metropolis when they were suddenly hit and seemingly annihilated by an alien energy blast. Now, though, we know what happened next to the World's Finest superheroes.

"Until now, the Justice League has been a loose association of superpowered individuals," reads the synopsis. "But when they are swept away to Warworld, a place of unending brutal gladiatorial combat, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and the others must somehow unite to form an unbeatable resistance able to lead an entire planet to freedom.”

It's a cool premise and one we're excited to see play out when the movie is released on Digital and Home Entertainment platforms this summer (we don't have a confirmed release date just yet, but anticipate one following imminently).

As for the rest of the ensemble, that's made up of Ike Amadi as Martian Manhunter/J’onn J’onzz, Troy Baker as Jonah Hex, Matt Bomer as Old Man, Roger C. Cross as Machiste, Brett Dalton as Bat Lash, Trevor Duvall as Drifter, John DiMaggio as Lobo, Robin Atkin Downes as Mongul, Frank Grillo as Agent Faraday, Rachel Kimsey as Mariah Romanova and David Lodge as Sheriff, and Damian O’Hare as Deimos, and Teddy Sears as Warlord.

The movie is going to be executive produced by Butch Lukic (Batman: The Long Halloween) and Sam Register, with longtime Batman franchise executive producer Michael Uslan also involved. DC vets Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau produce.

Jeff Wamester (Legion of Super-Heroes) directs Justice League: Warworld from a script by Jeremy Adams (Supernatural), Ernie Albacker (Justice League Dark: Apocalypse War) & Josie Campbell (She-Ra and the Princesses of Power).

I love this universe, so far. I'm surprised it took this long to get the trinity together.

@comicfan100 - agreed it’s been really good this far (green lantern being the weakest movie imo but still good). I actually like this younger interpretation of the league too.

Fingers crossed Gunn doesn't touch this part of the animation. Really enjoying this universe. Not need to have his animated tie-ins wash this away.

@GhostDog - ah snap he did say that all the shows, games, and movies would be connected right?

@GhostDog - Forcing everything to serve to the DCU is just going to end up backfiring sooner or later and push out other creatives that can offer good entertaining alternate content. DC has always lived through multiple takes on IPs. Gunn can have his DCU without having to shackle the rest.

If not let this animated movie live in another streamer like how Amazong got Batman: Caped Crusader and how Berlanti moved Dead Boys Detectives to Netflix.

Sounds very similar to the JLU episode when they go to Warworld and Supes has to fight Mongul to free the world from that dictator. Anyways, i love the DC animated movies so won't be surprised if this one is great like 90% of them are

I'm basically calling this the Man of Tomorrow-verse. It's a good cinematic universe they're building here.

Definitely wanna see this.

@KWilly - Tomorrowverse is actually what people have been calling it from the start.

There's even a wikipedia page for it.

The premise seems pretty simple but I'll see it. DC animation rarely misses.

Two more years until this becomes Elseworlds.

(At least I assume the label won't start until DC Studios actually starts it's DCU output, I don't think Shazam had ann Elseworlds label, so I doubt the next few films will either. But by the time Creature Commandoes is out we should start seeing this label).

What I'm wondering though is whether there will be any canon animated movies set in the new DCU.

Their animated films used to be top notch though have dropped a bit of late but do we need another cartoon about the JLA coming together? I feel like I've seen that several times already
