BOX OFFICE: Jeff Wadlow's KICK-ASS 2 Earns $1.3 Million At Late Thursday Screenings

The Wrap is reporting that Jeff Waldow's Kick-Ass 2 grossed $1.3 million in late shows yesterday, a fairly solid start for the R-Rated movie which was shown on 2,055 screens compared to Jobs' 2,200 (the Steve Job biopic starring Ashton Kutcher grossed only $425,000). In April 2010, the Matthew Vaughn helmed Kick-Ass opened with $19 million, and analysts are currently predicting a similar $20 million debut for the sequel. However, it's unclear at this point whether it will manage to take the #1 spot over the weekend as it faces stiff competition from The Weinstein Company's Lee Daniels' The Butler. What do you guys plan on checking out this weekend? Sound off below!

Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2. After Kick-Ass’ (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)—reborn as The Mother F%&*^r—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation.

STARRING:

Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Kick-Ass
Chloë Grace Moretz as Hit-Girl
Christopher Mintz-Plasse as The Mother F*cker
Jim Carrey as Colonel Stars
Donald Faison as Doctor Gravity
Lindy Booth as Night Bitch
Andy Nyman as The Tumor
Robert Emms as Insect Man
John Leguizamo as Javier
Morris Chestnut as Sergeant Marcus Williams

Haven't seen it yet but I'm rooting for it so that studios w/ comic book characters won't be afraid to put out R Rated CBMs. I need an R rated Deadpool from FOX and I'd like to see Disney/Marvel revisit Punisher one day.

Can't wait, I don't know why critics are panning this movie. I hope they didn't expect a mindblowing story or something, still, don't care what they think, Kick-ass 2 is gonna be sick!

Lmao! A nolanite that claims he's a critic! Easy to assume your biased then. Lol. You just lost a lot of credibility. For the record, I hate labels like Marvelites and Nolanites, so I'm also assuming, that since its your name, you won't get all offended at my little jest.

@Gusto. I love what you've done with your hair! I see a backpack, didn't your lawyers tell you that you can't go near any schools with children?

Really not looking good for KA2. R-rated movies can't afford any screw-ups, yet it's getting hammered by the critics. Universal may have to wait for home video revenue before they start thinking about a threequel.

infinitemonkey, i agree, i may watch it sometime later on, the only superhero movies i care to see are the two companies superhero movies in the theater, and thats ironic because i love the hellboy movies and the shadow, the rocketeer etc, but i dont care to see this in the theatre or maybe ever, maybe because it contradicts its own premise by saying this is the real world and then it has gallons of blood and over the top antics, i dont know, maybe its not my cup of tea.

i have a question for alot ofpeople, nothing really to do with cbms, just a generally fan of movies question, do you all think that the majority or alot of comedies today suck?

They should have done a Hit-Girl movie with KA in the supporting role. Chloe is a much better actor and her character is more appealing. Now it's too late, she'll be too old, if they want to do another film, which I doubt.

Really enjoyed this one. Jim Carey and Donald Fasion were very funny. Hit-Girl is very entertaining to watch and the action was very good and well done. Story was pretty good for the type of movie it is and the jokes are funny and not over done. Gave this movie a 8/10.

Ezio, yes, comedy has no balls, you can't joke about anything without someone claiming they're offended, every actor from SNL after Eddie Murphy has been simply pathetic, even when their films make money, the film is the most moronic crap around (looking at you, Adam Sandler and Will Ferrell). No intelligence, just shit.

i think personally to me iron man 3 , and i dont want to make this an iron man 3 discussion again and even tough i think it has a little to many comedic moments and discarding the problems i had with the movie or you had , but when the comedic beats hit for me ,it made me laugh a lot more then the comedies of today

I enjoyed it, I get why a lot of people wouldn't though. This one had more of a brutal, mean-spirited streak when the first one sort of had a fun, light-hearted tone to counteract the violence.
