The Empire awards are always a bit special because the nominees and winners are decided by the public. As a result, great films like Kick-Ass, Scott Pilgrim Vs The World and Inception, largely ignored by other award shows, can get the recognition they deserve. Of course it can also allow for stinkers like A Nightmare On Elm St to slip in there too!
Kick-Ass has picked up six nominations. 'Best Film', 'Best British Film', 'Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy' and 'Best Director', along with 'Best Actor' and 'Best Newcomer' nods for stars Aaron Johnson and Chloe Moretz, respectively.
The King's Speech, Inception, The Social Network and
Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World are also nominated in the 'Best Film' category.
127 Hours, The King's Speech, Four Lions and
Monsters will compete with
Kick-Ass for 'Best British Film'
