RUMOR: Marvel Studios Is Recasting Kang & We May Know Which Actor Is Being Eyed To Replace Jonathan Majors

A new rumor is claiming that Marvel Studios is planning to recast the role of Kang following the outcome of Jonathan Majors' recent trial, and we may know which actor they have in mind...

Marvel Studios recently severed ties with Jonathan Majors after the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Loki actor was found guilty of two of the charges filed against him by ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari.

The jury found Majors guilty of two misdemeanour counts of harassment and assault, as well as not guilty on two additional charges of intentional assault in the third degree and aggravated harassment in the second degree.

We've heard conflicting reports about Marvel's plans for the Kang character, but the latest rumor is claiming that the studio does intend to recast the villain, and we may know who Kevin Feige has in mind to step into the role.

According to insider Daniel Richtman, Colman Domingo is "one option" to replace Majors, but he stresses that it's very early days.

Domingo is a multi-award winning actor, writer and director, who has appeared in the likes of Fear the Walking Dead, Lincoln, Selma, If Beale Street Could Talk and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. More recently, he garnered acclaim for playing the lead role in biographical drama, Rustin.

At 54, Domingo is quite a bit older than Majors, but it's already been established that the Multiverse is full of vastly different Kang Variants, which would make recasting the role relatively simple.

As for the next Avengers movie, it's believed that The Kang Dynasty subtitle has been dropped (no surprise there), and the project is being referred to internally as "Avengers 5" for the time being. To what extent the current story will be altered remains to be seen, but Marvel revamping it as "Secret Wars Part 1" is sounding more and more likely.

Jeff Sneider has heard that "Secret Wars is basically shaping up to be a giant five-hour movie with a year-long intermission.”

As we know, Loki writer Michael Waldron was hired to pen a new draft, but reports indicate that the events of Loki season 2 are still going to inform the main plotline, which means Kang would remain on as a central character. Richtman has also heard that, despite rumors to the contrary, Doctor Doom was never being positioned to replace Kang as the new big bad of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and would have (and may still be) a secondary villain of the next Avengers films.

This is obviously just a rumor for now, and even if Domingo is a possibility to take over as Kang, there are bound to be others. Assuming he is a contender, do you think Domingo would be a good choice to play the Conqueror? Drop us a comment down below.

I love Domingo from his theater days. He is a chameleon in Passing Strange. If this is true, let's go!

This guy has such a distinct voice. He was the best thing about fear the walking dead until they did what they did 2 seasons ago, making him a villain with no logic behind that decision whatsoever

He also has a prominent nose like Majors does. So I can see this working with his silhouette and the existing Kang statues

Thats...a pretty random choice. Especially with actors like John Washington around.

@Origame - JDW isn't a strong actor and I hate to admit it, but nepotism may have played a hand in him getting so many high profile roles. He's not terrible, just not the best for this role.

@comicfan100 - yea JDW is far from his dad. He’s serviceable but nothing more so far

@Origame - I think JDW is too young. They want to go with an older variant. I would love to see Keith David as the Beyonder.

Domingo looks nothing like Majors besides both being black, but I guess Cheadle also looked nothing like Howard, or Ruffalo looked nothing like Norton.

I'm just not a fan of recasting characters with actors that look very different.

Denzel maybe I could buy it as a much older version of Major's Kang even if they also look different, but I guess there is no way they could get Denzel for this now.

@Ryguy88 - Kevin Spacey was my pick and he was found not guilty.

Why they can't cast a white guy is beyond me, there is a Black Loki and a Aligator Loki but there isn't a white Kang.

Ryguy88
Ryguy88 - 1/2/2024, 7:58 AM
@marvel72 - and people on here tell me they cast people based on being the best fit for the role and not based on their race.

Although I do think most have moved passed the "it's not happening" phase and are now firmly in the "it's good that it is happening" phase.

IMO they would have to go older for the recast to make sense so I’d be onboard with this if it were true. I don’t see someone like Denzel jumping at this kind of role, especially with the context in which Majors was fired. That being said, an actor that has 20 years on Majors would still work assuming they can give him a cool back story and explain where he’s been.
HashTagSwagg
HashTagSwagg - 1/1/2024, 6:22 PM
Does he have to be specifically black? I mean I think the audience are gonna recognise that it ain't JM playing him no more so why limit the casting when the dudes a multiversal character?

@HashTagSwagg -
The trouble is that the main Kangs from Ant-Man 3's post-credit are all returning, e.g. Racist stereotype Egyptian, Cyborg Kang and the one with the weird hat who chews scenery. So they need to visually look somewhat similar to emphasize them as the same characters. The generic Kang army also all need to be black because of the colosseum scene, the only exception was some aliens and things.

@HashTagSwagg - I mean if they are keeping Rama-Tut, Victor Timely, Immortus and Centurion in some major capacity then yeah it had to be a black actor.
