Here's When Disney+ Will Add These 4 Missing Phase 3 MCU Films To The Streaming Platform

An update before Disney+ launched revealed that a few more MCU titles than previously announced had been added to the streaming platform's launch day lineup. However, there are still 4 key films missing.

Yesterday, Disney+ got off to a bit of a rocky start with a myriad of technical issues before righting the ship later in the afternoon. However, one thing the technical staff for the app couldn't fix was the fact that the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe is not available to watch at this time.   Currently, these are the MCU films available to watch on Disney+:

FILMS
  1. Iron Man
  2. Iron man 2
  3. Iron Man 3
  4. Thor
  5. Thor: The Dark World
  6. Guardians of the Galaxy
  7. Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2
  8. Ant-Man
  9. Captain Marvel
  10. Captain America: The First Avengers
  11. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
  12. Captain America: Civil War
  13. Doctor Strange
  14. The Avengers
  15. Avengers: Age of Ultron
  16. Avengers: Endgame
You'll notice that Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Avengers: Infinity War are missing from this list.  That's because of pre-existing exclusivity deals with other streaming and network outlets that need to expire first.  However, the Disney+ app has a special section that tells users when these 4 films will be added. If you search for any of these films within the Disney+ app, there's a launch page that tells you when they will be added.

December 5, 2019: Thor: Ragnarok
March 4, 2020: Black Panther
June 25, 2020: Avengers: Infinity War
July 29, 2020: Ant-Man and the Wasp

If you were planning to binge-watch all the MCU films before Phase 4 kicks off with Black Widow on May 1, 2020, you'll need more than Disney+ to get the job done.

Of course, news circulated late yesterday per Disney+ head of content Ricky Strauss [via The Verge] that the streaming service will not be adding any of the standalone Tom Holland Spider-Man films. This of course strengthens the theory that the third and final Spider-Man film spinning out of the Sony/Marvel partnership will somehow wipe Spidey's time in the MCU out of continuity in a move akin to Spider-Man: One More Day.

Speaking of missing MCU content.  While the Phase 4 film slate looks fairly solid, there's still a few MCU heroes that we're unsure where they'll turn up next.  Click the NEXT button below to see our best guess.

Hulk (Disney+ Loki Series)

An alternate reality/dimension Loki who escaped with the Tesseract/Space Stone can literally go anywhere.  However, what if he wants to get revenge on the green giant who so easily dispatched him?  Such a development would be a prime chance to see Hulk at his best- before an epic beatdown by Thanos and transformation into the one-armed Professor Hulk currently running around the MCU.

Ant-Man & Wasp (Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness)

Ant-man-and-the-wasp-post-credits-scene-700x300

This movie will likely be the most important film in all of the announced Phase 4 projects.  It's the only film that has a Disney+ miniseries that directly leads into it and the fact that alternate realities will be featured means pretty much anyone can show up and anything can happen. A cameo by Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne doesn't make sense for any of the other confirmed projects but its a good chance that the full Avengers roster (and their alternate reality doppelgangers) could cameo.

Spider-Man (Hawkeye)

spider-man-2-1

The fact that Marvel used the Hawkeye logo from Matt Fraction & David Aja critically acclaimed run on the title is a good indicator of what Kevin Feige and co. will attempt to execute in the miniseries.  In the comic, Hawkeye is looking to enjoy a vacation of sorts from superhero life and is accompanied by Kate Bishop (who is confirmed to appear on the show).  He sets up shop in a Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn apartment and gets up to all sorts of hilarious hijinks.  With Spider-Man only a borough away, perhaps he'll make a cameo appearance?   That is, if he's still roaming free after having his secret identity exposed and being framed for murder.

War Machine (Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings)

If the real Mandarin surfaces and is out for revenge against all the parties involved in the misappropriation of his name, then it stands to reason that all the surviving individuals from Iron Man 3 will be a target.  That only leaves Rhodey, Pepper Potts and Trevor Slattery as potential targets.  Maybe we'll even see a new Iron Man suit up?

The Guardians (Thor: Love and Thunder)

It's a perfectly logical assumption to believe that the Guardians of the Galaxy will show up next in Thor: Love and Thunder as the Odinson was last seen rocketing off into space with the ragtag crew of the Milano.  However, perhaps news of Jane's cancer (the catalyst that made Thor surrender Mjolnir in the comic)  will spur Thor to return to Midgard? Peter Quill would likely be all too happy to get the Asgardian prince off his ship.

Black Panther (The Eternals)

When gods suddenly make their presence known on Earth (how will Marvel explain why we haven't seen them up until this point?), Wakanda is likely Earth's best line of defense.  The current Avengers roster lacks the firepower of yesteryears and whatever Nick Fury's building in space (likely a S.W.O.R.D. outpost) appears to be far from finished.  That leaves T'Challa, Shuri and the rest of Wakanda's newly revealed technological might to hold down the fort.

Captain Marvel  (WandaVision)

Ab2wtnt5k0y21

This is a rather odd place for Captain Marvel to show up but with an adult Monica Rambeau appearing, it would be the most likely Phase 4 project to see Carol Danvers return- even if it's just something similar to Black Widow's facetime meeting in Endgame.  The brisk pace of Endgame didn't afford Danvers any scenes with her closest family but that's something Marvel should look to rectify to ground the MCU's strongest character.

The X-Men and Fantastic Four (Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness)

Fan-poster-wolverine-mcu

Calling it now, the multiverse will be how Kevin Feige and co. bring in the X-Men and the Fantastic Four.  It's the simplest way to add X-Men characters like Wolverine, Apocalypse and Cable who have long, complicated backstories.  At this stage of the MCU, there's simply no other way to explain that they've been around all along and are only now stepping to the forefront.

Steve Rogers (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier)

2-6

Though he's passed his shield, Steve Rogers is still out there.  As a tactician, he'd still be a brilliant asset to any Earth defense force and having him direct Sam and Bucky as they attempt to outmaneuver Zemo would definitely bring back the Winter Soldier/Civil War vibe that seems to be reserved for Captain America films.

That’s random. I wonder what the thought process is. Are there some streaming rights for these movies tied up somewhere else until those dates?

@ElJefe - they’re all on Netflix

@ElJefe - They explain it in the article. They have to wait for their deals to end with other "other streaming networks"....aka: Netflix.

Disney+ seems pointless to me personally because other than things like the Mandalorian i already have all these on dvd or blu ray.... and ones i don't have i can snatch up for pennies.
And you know Mandalorian will get a dvd and blu ray release in a year's time.

@BritishMonkey - Generally, people want to watch shows/movies when they come out so they can talk about them with their friends, on sites like this, etc. If you're a fan of something waiting a year to watch it seems ridiculous.

Also, not everyone is in it for Marvel and Star Wars. There are some people that just like all the classic Disney movies.

Also, it's only $7 /month. Or free if you have Verizon.

@BritishMonkey - I agree. I'm really shocked that they released their app with almost no new content. They should have had a few shows kick off, but kinda dropped the ball. That and the app doesn't work on any of my devices. I'll be bootlegging it until they give a product worth the price.

Since when the [frick] was that a theory? I've heard more rumors and speculation that Disney will get spider-man for disney plus eventually, they are probably just saying this now cause well....sony hasn't agreed to it yet. Sure they may not add it to Disney plus, that has nothing to do with Spider-man possibly leaving the MCU again. Seriously take off the tin foil hat.

@Mrcool210 - agreed. This is a ridiculous theory. To me it’s pretty clear the deal with Sony presents obstacles or outright stops them from from putting those films on Disney Plus. I own the Blu-ray’s any way, and whether or not they’re in Disney + and whether or not I subscribe, I will continue to buy my favorites in Blu-ray, so I can be sure I can watch them when ever I want

@Mrcool210 - indeed, in the Mervel roundup article from today, it states it’s a licensing issue. 🙄

@Mrcool210 - lol I laughed at that theory. He's grasping at straws by saying that. When in actuality it's because those films are Sony owned and that's why they're not on the platform.

@MyCoolYoung - By taking advantage of Disney's strange policy of releasing stuff early in the Netherlands.

Not just the Disney+ trial or access to all MCU movies sans the Spider-Man ones, but also their movies are released here earlier than in other countries. For example, I could watch Endgame the same day as all the critics did.

Regarding the X-Men and the FF...the multiverse is ONE way of including them.

Another way is to simply introduce them as characters we simply have not seen yet.

The X-Men SHOULD begin as teenagers under the care of Professor X at the Westchester School. Stop tryin to shoehorn Wolverine into this right away. Be patient and let things ply out organically. Go with the original team as young students learning about their powers. The events of The Snap could be the reason why Professor X has decided to gather up young mutants. The Snap could also be the reason why Magneto decides to emerge to become a threat that must be stopped by the X-Men. Here is where the concept of mutants can be introduced. And Magneto could be the one who makes them something to fear (as opposed to other powered heroes who have shown they can be trusted.

The FF could emerge in much the same way. Why can’t Reed Richards be SO smart....So advanced that his work has gone on without being part of the MCU’s scientific culture (Stark, Banner, Pym, etc?). What if Reed Richards has a base that is cloaked from detection and conducts his cosmic ray experiment that accidentally transforms he and his comrades into the FF? And they burst upon the scene organically, without multiverse tricks?

MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 11/13/2019, 6:50 AM
@deepee3 - wolverine is always the easiest because of his slowed aging but people like Magneto will increasingly become more of a problem because of his backstory.

So starting them in as teenagers will change a lot of backstory as well, but it's to be expected.
