The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Avengers: Infinity War and Thor: Ragnarok star Chris Hemsworth is currently in early talks with Sony Pictures to join their upcoming Men in Black spinoff.

Plot details remain under wraps, but the film, which is being described as a global adventure, will reportedly feature a diverse ensemble that will likely consist of a white male, a female of color, and an older man. Former franchise stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are not expected to return in any capacity as the franchise introduces new characters and explores new intergalactic adventures.

F. Gary Gray (Fate of the Furious) is set to direct with a script from the Iron Man screenwriting duo of Matt Holloway and Art Marcum. Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald will produce while Steven Spielberg will return as an executive producer.

Filming is expected to begin this summer, presumably after Hemsworth wraps Drew Goddard's Bad Times at the El Royale.

The reboot is set to hit theaters on June 14, 2019.

@Origame - What if Chris played the same type role as Will Smith and Danai Gurira played the straight man type role like Tommy Lee Jones?

I think he could do it. He could be the new "J". Not exactly K who requires to be serious and kinda smooth and nothing ever goes wrong to him.

Huh, quite unexpected but great for Chris, i agree with Mr. Levi have this MIB take place years later with Agent J in charge of the organization. I really need a good MIB movie again.

@aflynn - if Chris is his serious self and Kevin is the comedy I'd watch.

I wish they'd treat MIB as a dark R-rated sci-fi film. We've seen that quirky and comedic take 3 times; do something fresh.

@EgoEgor - I mean the first film had a giant cockroach as the villain & ate Tommy Lee Jones
