UPDATE: So it seems Funny or Die is the team behind this, but we still do not know why. This info thanks to google cache.
Ever since the debut of Back to the Future 2 in 1989, it has been everyone's dream to own a genuine Mattel Hoverboard. With the date of that we journeyed to with Marty McFly and Dr. Emmett Brown approaching it has become a scramble to make all the predictions in BTTF2 a reality. From Nike Releasing auto lacing shoes to some desperate fans trying to scramble to make up the missing Jaws films in order to reach the magic number 19 featured in the film, everyone wants 2015 to be as close the the movie as possible.
Today the internet is abuzz with a new item from BTTF2. A supposed real to life, actually functioning, Hoverboard. A new company name Huvr Tech has released some footage of none other than Christopher Lloyd debuting this device with none other than skateboarding legend Tony Hawk! Along with some other big names such as Moby,Terrell Owens and Agnes Bruckner just to name a few, its easy to see why this is become an overnight sensation.
After doing some digging (and watching the video way too many times) its obviously a fake. Between the shirts lifting when the people take off (indicative of wires) and finding the "Lead Engineers"
acting portfolio this video has certianly toyed with my emotions. The actual website has a counter at the very top that is identical to the DeLorean Time Machines Clocks. It is hosted by amazon registered through a company named "Whois Privacy Protect" who lists their objective as " premium service to domain name registrants to protect their personal information from being displayed in the public Whois database"
Another interesting fact is that the company name Huvr Corp, is not found in the copyright database even though they use the logo on their site.
Now the big question: WHY?!?! Why would someone do this to us?!
Here are my guesses:
1)
Back to the Future 4: While this one that I hope is not true and could be a travesty, this is an option
2)
Back to the Future: 30 Year Anniversary Edition: The supposed release date of the boards is December 2014. BTTF was originally released in 1985, could this be them releasing a collectors edition Blu Ray pack? Possibly but one was done not too long ago in 2010
3)
A Back to the Future Lego Game: This is pure speculation but with the success of The Lego movie and the anniversary coming up, this could be a viable option.
I guess we will see!! Let me know what you think in the Comments:
