Universal Is Still Trying To Make Its DARK UNIVERSE Happen As Work On BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN Continues

Despite the fact that its first two Dark Universe movies bombed, Universal Pictures is still trying to make the Dark Universe happen and it appears that work on Bride of Frankenstein is commencing...

Last year, we heard that Universal Pictures is going back to the drawing board with its Dark Universe after both Dracula Untold and The Mummy bombed. As a result, Bill Condon's remake of Bride of Frankenstein was put on hold while work on the script continued but a new report reveals that pre-production will likely resume soon as a production team for the project is currently being assembled.

That is said to include Tobias A. Schliessler (A Wrinkle In Time), production designer Sarah Greenwood (Beauty and The Beast), composer Carter Burwell (No Country For Old Men), and costume designer Jacqueline Durran (Beauty and The Beast). It's an impressive team and rumour has it that Javier Bardem is still set to appear as Frankenstein's monster. There's no word on the bride, though.

It was previously reported that Angelina Jolie would take on that role but she's likely to be busy with Maleficent 2. What the future holds in store for the rest of the Dark Universe also isn't clear and it could be quite a while before we find out more. Bride of Frankenstein was previously set to be released in theaters on February 14th, 2019, a date it vacated last year just as Gambit did earlier this month.

@MrCamw1 - "IT'S TIME TO STOP!!!!"

No, it's time to keep trying until they get it right (whatever "right" means). They have the licenses for these films. Why just "sit on them" and do nothing? That is a BAD financial idea.

im guessing they will say the Mummy is not part of the universe like they did with Dracula Untold

Anyone else think it was a picture of the Hulk especially with the Universal name in the headline?

Well played😉

@ChangAlang - LOL!

Apparently, Doctor Frankenstein used body parts from very large, muscular people to make this "Hulk" version of Frankenstein.

I sometimes wonder how long it will be until Disney will make Universal an offer they can't refuse for the Hulk distribution rights. One day they are going to be so F'ing rich they will be able to afford this without blinking a financial eye.

This could work if they approached it more like horror films rather than action adventure films.

@Forthas - Agreed. I want to see horror films as actual horror instead of them trying to make them fit into every genre just for the sake of viewership for every audience.

I would like to propose - for marketing purposes - that this universe be the "monster" universe...and the Warner Brothers Godzilla/King Kong be officially the "behemoth" universe!

They want a shared universe, just look at stuff like Penny Dreadful and the League Of Extrordinary Gentlemen comic book

Classic monsters can be actually scary. They're just not going to do it right.

@FleischerSupes - That performance from Gary was worth the price of admission and time spend watching the whole film. It more than made up for that other actor who was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of place in this film (you know, the one with the bad accent).

@LSHF - Which one? Wynona or Keanu?

LSHF - 1/16/2018, 2:13 PM
@Whaley87 - LOL! Both. I just don't know how to spell their names and didn't want to look them up. But mainly I was thinking of Keanu. It helps to have a great agent with lots of connections and whatever the F it took to land him (and her) that role. I would have thought Francis would have nixed this idea during auditions (since they can't do the accent), but I have to remind myself that sometimes it isn't the director's decision who gets in the film, and he/she just has to role with it.

I honestly can't watch this film again because of the two above-mentioned names I can't spell. I wouldn't mind watching a cut with just Gary and Anthony, just so I can see their performances.

@LSHF - Keanu's accent may have been bad, but his acting was spot-on. Jonathan Harker is SUPPOSED to be a very wooden and stoic guy.

@Omegacron - I didn't know that. Thank you.

@LSHF - Yep, in the novel there was a direct contrast between Jonathan Harker (perfect English gentleman), who represented the socially-acceptable choice, vs. the Count (an exotic foreigner), who represented freedom and unbridled sexuality. Harker had a stick up his ass whereas Dracula wanted to slip her the stick.

@Omegacron - Cool. The next time I see this (if I do), I will have a greater appreciation for it now.

Thanks again.
