In an interview with Crave Online while promoting Stand Off, Brendan Fraser discusses Universal Pictures' plans for a reboot of The Mummy franchise, in which he stars as Rick O'Connell. He certainly doesn't sound bitter about not being in a fourth installment of the financially successful series (2008's Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor grossed over $400M worldwide, so it would make sense that more movies would be made), and he's supportive of the film and will see it opening day even if it isn't necessary. "I wasn't approached for it. I would certainly entertain the idea, and I know for sure that I will be there on opening day to get the good seat. Unless they call me for some in-joke, nudge-nudge, wink-wink reason to walk an actor through a cameo in the background a la Hitchcock or something. I don’t even know if it's necessary, but how do I feel about that? I'm supportive of it. I think it's going to be great. It's good source material. So many films based on the mummy were made even before that. I don't think for a minute that Steve Sommers and the current company were the ones who really brought it to any interest or prominence. Those characters were around in the cabinet of Universal monsters and have been for almost 100 years now." For Crave Online's full interview with Fraser, click the source link below.

Len Wiseman (Total Recall, Live Free Or Die Hard) is directing Universal's reboot of The Mummy, with Star Trek Into Darkness' Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman producing. It was recently reported that the studio was working on two competing scripts for the film (which is described as horror and epic), with The Hunger Games' Billy Ray writing one and Prometheus's Jon Spaihts penning the original draft. The plan is to have production begin by late summer or early fall and release sometime in the summer of 2014.
