4 Things I Want To See In GODZILLA 2

4 Things I Want To See In GODZILLA 2

I really liked the new Godzilla movie but had a few issues. Here are 4 things I want from the recently announced sequel.

4. LESS OFF-SCREEN ACTION

The whole "Jaws" comparison doesn't hold up. Godzilla is a giant monster that everyone knows and recognizes; only showing glimpses of him in order to "build suspense" just doesn't work - its actually a bit annoying and tedious. Every time there was a major action sequence the camera moved away from and/or cut away from the action which was incredibly disappointing. While I agree there should be some build-up, the way the action cut away when Godzilla finally shows up is frustrating. I want to see less of that in the sequel.

3. NO OTHER MONSTERS or OTHER MONSTER(S) BUT GODZILLA AS THE FOCUS

The movie was more of a MUTO movie than a Godzilla one. So either have another monster but focus mainly on Godzilla or focus entirely on Godzilla. They could honestly just do Godzilla vs military and then introduce another monster in the 3rd act and I'd be more than happy.

2. RETURN OF SERIZAWA AND GRAHAM

I disliked most of the main characters in the movie and killing off Cranston's was a huge mistake. The only other characters that I actually liked or was interested in were the "scientist" characters of Serizawa (played by Ken Watanabe) and Graham (played by Sally Hawkins). I'd like to see a lot more of them in the sequel.

1. MORE GODZILLA

Godzilla wasn't at all the focus of the movie despite the title. He sorta just shows up about an hour into it, with little mention of him before hand. Most of the military also just brushes off the fact that Godzilla exists and focuses most of their attention on the MUTOs. In the sequel I'd like to see much more Godzilla, more early on.

What do you want to see in Godzilla 2?

I think taking a step back in terms of amount of Monsters would be bad. Seqels should build not take away.

I'd like to see one of the classic Godzilla foes: Anguirus, for example. Doesn't have to be the main focus of the movie, but give me a battle scene with him in the beginning to set the tone.

Also, we destroyed San Francisco and Las Vegas already. So let's start off in an exotic location (Monster Island?) with an adventure-type feel. And let's end where this one should have: destroying Tokyo.

They should do a Godzilla versus Gamera movie. They could have a cameo from Rodan and Mothra and they could team up against King Kong.

Think I read that Edwards said if he comes back for a sequel he wanted to visit Monster Island. Which i'd be happy with + this would also give Godzilla more screentime.

I don't think having Godzila just versus the army will cut it + that was basically the 98 film.

If they can get the rights to some other Toho Kaiju I would be happy. King Ghidorah and Gigan would be hard since their both from outer space and you'd basically have to do an alien invasion storyline to stay true to the characters. I think what they could do is use the premise that the monsters of myth are real e.g. dragons & chimera. Now King Ghidorah does look like a Slavic dragon so you could do a version of him but he wouldn't be the true King Ghidorah.

I would like to see more Serizawa, think he'd work even in a monsters island story, you could just have a hidden facility on the island were he lives while he studies the kaiju.

Godzilla 2: Mechagodzilla, because it keeps in with the theme of man vs nature. Also Mechagodzilla is one of the most awesome things ever.

Godzilla 3: King Gidorah because hey, he's the big bad so let's use that

Wouldn't the sequel deal with a massive impact of what has happened like the world itself becoming far more militarised and even dictatorial and then lead to the creates like Ghidorah as bioweapons?

I haven't seen this film, but the fact that Ken is in it makes it 5x more awesome than it already will be.

You lost me at " no other monsters and more Godzilla vs. military" did you not see the movie in 1998? I don't see how anyone can ever possibly want that.

It was not tedious it was not annoying it was beautifully drawn out. Why show him the whole time? So you get bored every time you see him? Is the whole film supposed to be just a giant lizard smashing stuff? The build makes the action worthwhile.

More monsters less military unless it's written better. The only reason this movie worked is because they made this world truly real. You can believe this thing exists in this world. The human story wasn't bad it seems they cut out a lot. The film wouldn't have worked without it though. It's not an amazing film. There are faults. I wish Cranston was around longer and Serizawas dialogue was better but it still worked. The anticipation of seeing him fight is what really makes it man.

We'll see more of him in the sequel but they need to keep the anticipation so it's not just cities crashing. I don't know what they're gonna do. Probably wake up a couple more creatures.

@TheMexicanSuperman I found his character to be boring and his acting wooden.

@CaptainAmerica31 They can use other monsters, but Godzilla should be the focus. I'd like to see more military vs Godzilla - I personally like that type of stuff. Just need to handle it better than the 1998 movie.

@Wallymelon I'm not saying they show him the whole time but they could have easily introduced him earlier, shown the action sequence at the airport and then do a huge battle in the 3rd act. And I guarantee you people wouldn't be bored of Godzilla. Pacific Rim had multiple action sequences and the audiences loved them. I like a good build-up but either continue to show glimpses or show the full action - don't half ass it and pull away/cut away. It kills the moment and is basically a cop out.

My idea/hope for the sequel would be for Part 1 - Hunting Godzilla, Part 2 - Military finding/fighting Godzilla, Part 3 - Intro to other monster(s)/Godzilla fights them

Pacific Rim was not good. It looked cool but it wasn't a good movie by any means. Taylor Johnson isn't quite ready to be a leading man, there was no military bearing or intensity to him. I like him as an actor, he's just not there yet.

@sikwon I agree Pacific Rim was a pretty bad movie, but it got the action sequences right. I also agree about Johnson.
