John Arturo - When did you start collecting and how did you get into the hobby?
Boyd Gill - It all started back in 09 on a trip to travel round the USA with my missus (were from Australia) and attend comic-con at the end of the trip. I'd been buying comics occasionally over that last few years but never really had much in the way of collectibles, however whilst in NYC I came across the glorious Midtown Comics Store and picked up a couple sets of Minimates (due to their small size and awesomeness) along with a few trade paperbacks to keep me going for the flights and AMTRAK rides to follow, from then on whatever city I was in I hunted down a comic book store to try and find more minimates and TPB's, I should probably have just waited till comic-con because when I finally got to the holy of holy's my bank account silently wept, minimates galore! not to mention all the art prints, toys and TPB's. Long story short I came home with an extra suitcase filled with collectibles, prints and books. How I managed to stay under the luggage weight allowance I'll never know.
John Arturo - What makes minimates interesting to you?
Boyd Gill - The detail is incredible. I love that they make versions of less mainstream characters as well as your Spidermans and Wolverines. Its always interesting to see who they will bring out next. Plus, much to my missus's delight they take up minimal space.
John Arturo - Do you collect anything else?
Boyd Gill - I love art prints, I picked up several from my two trips to comic-con and its a real thrill to buy them off the artists themselves. I'd love to have more statues I only got my first one this year (Winter Soldier/Bucky Cap) and i commend the other collectors you have featured thus far on their dedication, those things aren't cheap haha.
John Arturo - What is your favorite collectibles company?
Boyd Gill - I suppose I gotta say Diamond Select for their minimates, but I love Kotobukiya's statues.
John Arturo - What is your favorite part of collecting?
Boyd Gill - To be honest K love the way a rooms full of collectibles make a room come alive. And the satisfaction of seeing your collection grow and getting those few items you've been saving up for in the mail and putting them on the shelf.
John Arturo - What is the key thing you look for in an item you want to add to your collection?
Boyd Gill - I'd say that it's probably that it's based on a character I've been reading about and might not already have in my collection or if it's something Deadpool and awesome.
John Arturo - What is your favorite movie?
Boyd Gill - CBM wise, So far its gotta be a Captain America, only just over Iron Man. Of all time, Probably Starship Troopers :)
John Arturo - What is your favorite piece from your collection?
Boyd Gill - Out of the minimates, probably gotta be the 'Civil War' Captain America where he's in little hand cuffs, that was one of the first ones I got and print-wise I love the 'Vincent Van Gogh' Wolverine portrait done by Laura Martin.
John Arturo - What are some items you are most looking forward to adding to your collection?
Boyd Gill - I've had my eye on the Deadpool statue that Kotobukiya has done, man I want that thing! and the Hawkeye statue that Kotobukiya is bringing out looks rad..
John Arturo - Finally, what is your favorite aspect of ComicBookMovie.com?
Boyd Gill - Just the amount of awesome information that comes through, no matter how insignificant, it's still exciting to the good users of this site. Plus it's fun to read all the diverse opinions we passionate nerds have (I used the term nerd affectionately).
John Arturo - Boyd also added a little extra information about the collection...
Boyd Gill - The paintings of Marvel character head shots are ones that I have done myself, when I decided to give painting a crack one day. I have no training, but it's fun even if they do look like they were done by a five year old haha.
The Toy Story collection is my partners, (even if i did buy them for her ;) ).
Plus if any one has and xbox and wants to play online they can add me BoydeyMcNerd, I need people to play against haha.
