"Grim Hunt" has been the event the Spider-Man comics have been coming to for the past couple of months. Does it deliver the epic story it promised? The answer is yes.

This comic is what I call the start of an event. The dialogue is beautifully written and the way the scenes play out is great. I like the part when Kaine says, "Their hunting spiders." "We are not the only spiders." Time freezes at that moment. I have to think, what other spiders are there?

Julia Carpenter makes a great guest star. The run-down apartment is just gruesome. It was really a shock when (SPOILER) Ezekiel appears. That shows that Grim Hunt will be one of the biggest Spider-Man events for the years to come.

This comic is also very, very emotional. When Mattie Franklin (Spider-Woman 3) is stabbed, it just feels very sad and shows how merciless the Kravinoffs are.

The art, while not awesome, is definitely an improvement over the sketchy and gritty "Shed."

In closing, this comic is very, very good. Probably my favorite Spider-Man comic since "New Ways to Die." (When is the real Venom coming back)?

I give this comic a 4.5/5

Part two should be out next week.

totally agree! Spidey is getting back on track lately in preperation for "OMIT" (cant wait til he gets MJ back and away from that little dickhead Harry). i enjoyed the first part of "GRIM HUNT", kinda disappointed that they didnt resurrect the real Kraven, but his son instead... i totally flipped when Ezekiel showed up! missing eye and all!!! (now that some years have passed i kinda enjoyed the insanity that was "THE OTHER" where Spidey pulls out Ezekiels eyeball!) and i thought "SHED" was a cool new twist on the Lizard. ASM has been pretty dark though lately huh? with Lizard killing Billy Connors and then the Kravens killing Mattie- so much for the "HEROIC AGE" being all happy rainbows and sunshine (take that disney!) between "GRIM HUNT" and "AMERICAN SON", how in the hell does Spidey have time to be in any Avengers group, let alone 2!?!?! its like its a totally different person in those books. i wish they would tie some of this stuff together- maybe have Spidey sittin around with the Avengers treating wounds from his fight with the Lizard, or talking about his "GAUNTLET" drama. i miss Norman Osborne already!!! cant wait to see how he fits into the "AMERICAN SON" storyline and when that goblin baby is born- SHIT IS GONNA HIT THE FAN!!!!!!!!!

good article i always appreciate a good Spidey comic review! keep em comin! and to answer your question about Venom- i think Eddie is gonna stay "AntiVenom" for a long time now that Carnage is "dead"....

@Makiveli21 Yes, the comics have been darker lately. (Which I like). I live Anti-Venom, I just can't stand Mac Gargan as Venom. I mean, back in Dark Avnegers, he was used for comic relief! Back in the good old days, Venom was a name to tremble in fear in. It's interesting how the Spider-Man comics don't really tie in to the other Marvel events. (Save for Civil War and Dark Reign).

I never liked "Brand New Day." So I hope Spidey gets back with MJ.

Thanks for the comment. I will review part two next week.
