Destroyer 14's Review of Origin of Species Part One

I review part one of the Spider-Man event: Origin of Species. There will be some spoilers...

Origin of Species is the event that ends Brand New Day. The question is, does part one engage the reader? Read on.

First, I want to say that the cover of part one should win best cover of the year. Now, onto the story. The story itself is very well-written. Now this is an event. I'm glad to see that Doc Ock's back.

However, the art was horrible. When Peter first appeared, I couldn't tell it was him because the art was so bad. The dialogue between Peter and Betty was not very well-written. Why does Peter need the help of others? I remember ten years ago when he was able to do things himself.

Once the villains show up, strangely, the art gets better. Spidey against the villains was good and well-written. One of my favorite parts was when Doc Ock came and said, "Don't worry, I'm a doctor." Very well-written.

Also, one thing I want to happen in the latter parts is the inclusion of Venom and Anti-Venom. They were on the cover. The way I think Origin of Species should end is that Venom appears, destroys all the villains, then gets into a big climatic fight with Spider-Man. They haven't had a good fight in awhile. I miss those showdowns.

In closing, Origin of Species is doing a great job so far. Let's hope the art gets better.

I give this issue a 4/5. Part two will be out next week.

good review Destroyer, you are right, the art is lackluster, why can't it be as awesome as the cover. I truly hope that we see better artwork after this arc
