Disney Buys Stake in Stan Lee's Personal Company

Disney invests $2.5 million for a 10 percent stake in Lee's Pow Entertainment

No wonder Stan has been pouring on the platitudes for Disney in his recent tweets and interviews. As part of the deal, Disney is acquiring "exclusive consulting services" from Pow as well as the "enhanced rights" to the company's creative side. Stan has been quoted as saying: "From every point of view, the merger of Disney and Marvel is a match made in heaven."

On one of Stan's recent tweets regarding his 35,000 followers:

"[Maybe], when we hit 100,000, Disney'll host our party," the acclaimed comic book writer declared. "But one thing at a time. I'm still trying for a discount on my ticket to Disneyland!"

Two and a half million dollars! Not a bad birthday present, huh?

OF COURSE the man has nothing bad to say about the deal, he just got 2.5 MILLION dollars to save his floundering company! Disney just got screwed - Stan Lee hasn't had an original idea in over 30 YEARS! All he's good for nowadays is annoying cameos in comic book films! Excelsior this, pus-bag!!

I was checking out his website. He says he has a bunch of characters "in development". If you look under the FAQ section, he will autograph something for you for free as long as you include SASE to send back. Pretty cool.

Nothing much has come from here yet except Who Wants to be a Superhero. Remember that from SyFy?
loganoneil
loganoneil - 1/4/2010, 12:08 PM
Dogs - yeah, 'Who Wants To Be A Superhero', a show designed to shamelessly exploit the ideas of other people (what 'The Man' does best!)
DogsOfWar
DogsOfWar - 1/4/2010, 12:11 PM
@loganoneil-You seem a bit bitter towards Stan. Did he steal your girlfriend or something?
loganoneil
loganoneil - 1/4/2010, 12:18 PM
Dogs - Go to the cons and talk to some of the old-timers who've worked for 'The Man' (if they're still around). You'll get a COMPLETELY different picture of life back in the day than the 'peaches-and-cream' version Lee tries to push on the public.

What is wrong with you people? Stan is so far beyond criticism that your petty, over-cynical and bitter gripes only show you up for the sad, sorry, pathetic losers you are. If it wasn't for him, comics would have died a slow lingering death decades ago. A true comics legend and this is how you behave towards him?

Shame on you. Ingrates.

Can we ban loganoneil from the site, for this? I mean, he's bashing Stan Lee. Isn't that illegal in our culture?
loganoneil
loganoneil - 1/4/2010, 1:02 PM
Joob - WRONG. Hiroyuki Takei CREATED 'Ultimo'. Stan Lee is just the PR whore he always is.

JJMeyler - The truth sometimes hurts, but the truth shall set you free. Have some Kool-Aid to ease your pain...

Stan is currently working on a number of different projects. Ultimo, as just mentioned (He is listed as co-creator...get over it loganoneil) , and he is developing a new line of superheroes for Virgin Comics. In the last few years, he also did the animated Mosaic and Condor that went directly to DVD. With Disney being involved, I can see more of those type of movies being done. Not that it matters. I think Stan has earned respect for what he has done for the comic book hero genre, regardless of how much he has done in recent history. The guy's getting old now and why should we expect he has to keep working like he did 30 years ago?
peterparker420
peterparker420 - 1/4/2010, 1:08 PM
loganoneil- KOOL-AID? what are you talking about?
whatever you're smoking, give me some.
cause you are clearly out you're mind.
I THINK HE SNUBBED YOU AT A CON..AND YOU
CRYED TO YOURE MOMMY AND YOU HATED HIM EVER
SINCE..am I close?

JJMeylar- I'm with you! CBM BAN HIM FOR TALKING SMACK
ABOUT THE MAN...STAN!

Ranger14
Ranger14 - 1/4/2010, 1:13 PM
Let's see what Takei says about Stan Lee and Ultimo...

At the Shonen Jump panel, Takei-sensei and Jump Square editor Takanori Asada were up first for some Q & A with Enos and Lowery.

Q: Why is good and evil the focus of Ultimo?

Hiroyuki Takei: Mr. Lee came up with the concept to make the characters represent ultimate evil and ultimate good / justice, and I just kind of went along with it! (laughs)

..............

Q: When did it first occur to you to create the character of Dunstan, around your co-creator?

Hiroyuki Takei: I thought of the idea of Dunstan when I first met Mr. Lee. Since he's the creator of this story, I wanted him to be the creator of Ultimo and Vice in the story.

peterparker420
peterparker420 - 1/4/2010, 1:13 PM
Ranger14- EXACTLY! He's been around since the begining
he doesn't need to do anything, if he doesn't
want to.

He deserves every cameo he gets and he deserves respect from all comicbook fans..nuff said!
peterparker420
peterparker420 - 1/4/2010, 1:16 PM
SirPrize- maybe he wrote the story that went along with
those prints, thats why he is signing them?
loganoneil
loganoneil - 1/4/2010, 1:18 PM
Guys - I'm not supermike (talking smack just because I can), I happen to have a point here. You think 'The Man's' [excrement] doesn't stink 'cause you've bought into the PR crap he's been feeding you since you were knee-high to a comic book rack. I (on the other hand) believe he CAN'T walk on water and that his [excrement] smells just like everybody else's! Like I've said before, go to the cons and talk to some of the old-timers who've worked for 'The Man' (if they're still around). You'll get a COMPLETELY different picture of life back in the day than the 'peaches-and-cream' version Lee tries to push on the public! Or are you afraid the squeeky-clean image of your 'Comic Messiah' doesn't hold water to the harsh view of reality?
loganoneil
loganoneil - 1/4/2010, 1:21 PM
Ranger - What's your source?
Ranger14
Ranger14 - 1/4/2010, 1:24 PM
Loganell, no one has said he is perfect and is squeaky clean. I am very familiar with the good and bad when it comes to Stan Lee, but that doesn't mean I am not going to give him his props for what he has done. There are plenty of celebrities I admire for what they have accomplished regardless of the the dirt that goes along with it. Tiger Woods just showed the world he isn't perfect and far from squeaky clean, but he is still the best golfer the world has seen, with the exception perhaps of Jack Nicklaus.
DogsOfWar
DogsOfWar - 1/4/2010, 1:27 PM
@SirPrize-What is a writer supposed to sign, a manuscript? It even says in the article they didn't do scripts, Lee wrote the dialogue to fit the art. Of course Kirby is another icon in comics history but Stan co-created the characters and did the dialogue. He is just as deserving to autograph that stuff. Stan has given a lot of credit to the Kirbys & Ditko's of the world. Yes, Stan knows how to beat his own band box but can you blame him?

I am not trying to say the guy is perfect but he has done more for the comic industry than anyone else!
peterparker420
peterparker420 - 1/4/2010, 1:28 PM
loganoneil- I'm not saying he's PERFECT cause no one is
I'm saying respect the man for helping create
some of the greatest superheroes ever. He is
a legend. and always will be. Sure he was
a hard ass back in the day, but back then you
had to scratch and claw you're way to the
top. he is a human being with flaws like the
rest of us. But bottom line he is a LEGEND.
In my opinion. but hate if you want thats
cool with me! ;)

SirPrize- don't ever call me "NOT AN ARTIST"..I am a
TATTOO ARTIST AND DRAW IN MY SPARE TIME, I also
paint! DON"T EVER SAY THAT AGAIN!, I was just
guessing. I see what you are saying NOW..and
I agree.

DogsOfWar-GOOD CALL!
loganoneil

Peter - You think he's a LEGEND. I think he's a self-centered opportunistic turd that should have been flushed a LONG time ago. Agree to disagree.
Ranger14
Ranger14 - 1/4/2010, 1:32 PM
SirPrize, signing an autograph doesn't mean you are taking credit for something. If one asks a football player or actor to sign their hat, it doesn't mean that celebrity is taking credit for making that hat. If a a hot babe asks Mick Jagger to sign her boobs, does that mean he is taking the creative credit for her boobs?
90caliber
90caliber - 1/4/2010, 1:33 PM
Hey loganoneil if your gonna say you heard something about someone from someone else then you should at least say what you heard and who told you. If you dont have the nuts to do that then dont cosign that shit. Haterism is a disease and i think you might be infected.
peterparker420

loganoneil- AGREE TO DISSAGREE..YUP!
loganoneil
loganoneil - 1/4/2010, 1:36 PM
Ranger - I would NEVER accuse ANYONE on this site of faking a source (save Supermike or that guy who made up the Beyonce/Wonder Woman story to impress his girlfriend). If you say it is, it is. But we all know that SOURCES have to be double-checked. It's been my understanding that Hiroyuki-san has been the work-horse for the 'Ultimo' project, but if I'm wrong I'll admit it.
DogsOfWar
DogsOfWar - 1/4/2010, 1:37 PM
Logan-You don't give any credit to Stan for CO-creating FF, Hulk, Spider-man and so many more? If it weren't for him Marvel would have dissolved long ago.
