EDITORIAL: The CW Plan

We all expect the CW to add at least one more DC show, but are they actually planning something more. Hit the jump to find out what I think the CW is trying to do.

Like many, I think The Flash and Arrow are two of the elite comic book TV shows out there, maybe even the best (I would like it to be known that I am not a DC fan, I actually like Marvel a little bit more). Warner Bros. is taking advantage of of the CW to portray some of their lesser known characters, or better known in the case of the Flash. The Atom and Firestorm were both recently introduced to the Arrowverse, and I fully expect both characters to get their own show respectfully depending on how they are accepted. Then, I believe that a new character will be introduced in any of the four shows that will also get their own show, making the schedule as follows:
Monday- Firestorm
Tuesday- The Flash
Wednesday- Arrow
Thursday- The Atom
Friday- Black Canary?

This would allow for them to create their own Justice League of sorts. Then have a major team-up in place of each season finale, or have a winter team-up series in a form much like Agent Carter. This would cause more intrigue for each show and allow for even more obscure characters to be introduced.

CW is developing an Hour-Man show, so if that gets the greenlight it will almost certainly tie-in with Arrow and the Flash.

I can see the Atom happening, but Firestorm not for a while

I doubt any of this would happen

If Brandon Routh is Superman instead of Atom I could see that getting it's own series. (Sorry for being a broken record about that, but I'll hope for Routh as DCtv's Superman/Kal-El until they cast another actor for the role.)

I'd like a Canary show about Sara more than Laurel. Even if it's before Sara returns to Starling City and she is unable to appear in an crossovers/teamups in present day.

After watching the Tomorrow People I can't see Rob Amell carrying his own show again.

I don't hate Arrow or Flash. I dislike the heavy soap opera aspects of both shows and that they don't seem to really be going any ware. I mean... I'm just not impressed. What's the difference between the 2 shows? Not the characters, I mean the shows. Exceptional person fights crimes committed by other exceptional people while navigating person issues. Green or Red, rich or science based... that's what both shows are. Cool action scenes and appearances by recognizable comic characters and soap opera love stories. They are the same dam show. That's problem number 1 with the WB formula for me. Problem 2 is they are simply throwing as many shows out there as they can and then figuring it out as they go. Problem 3. They insist on making every important character have his/her origin tied into the main character. There is literally nothing really interesting about either show. They are mildly enjoyable but when you strip them.down, it's the same show. And to make it even worse for me... Oliver is basically Bruce Wayen except with Arrows (hell, he's even got a "Bat family!") and Barry has ALOT OF PETER PARKER in his character. There's no innovation on either show, in either plot or in either character. It's frustrating. I try and I try to watch these two shows and I just cant. I seriously feel like the writers and producers are laughing at us.

What the CW needs to do is have an actual soap opera set in the DC universe as a separate show. Then remove all the cheesy soapy crap from Arrow and Flash, and future shows.

How about a Justice League show instead?

Brandon Routh can definitely carry his own show I don't think canary can she needs to stay in arrow, I think that if the shows keep doing well then I can see a batman show go into development

two great shows. I would love to see the Atom and also firestorm

I don't think Atom or Firestorm is going to get their own shows.

The way I see it, this should happen:

Arrow = The "Batman" of the group
Flash = The "Superman" of the group

A third show, preferably led by a female character, should complete the Trinity and represent the "Wonder Woman" of the group.

I'm not really a fan of Robbie's he in my opinion, was the weakest link in the Tomorrow People. So I don't see a Firestorm show happening. I also don't see a Black Canary show happening either. Remember Birds of Prey? That didn't go so well and I really don't think Arrow's universe of Black Canary can carry the show. You have to remember CW is or was planing a live action Young Justice show. I could see Dinah Lance being the den mother in that show. Just like she was shown in the animated universe.

@ArkAngel I think Supergirl will be the female part of the trinity even though it's on CBS. I atom would have his own tv show but ithey would be too expensive for tv let alone CW tv. I pray there is a Justice League crossover miniseries with Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Firestorm, Black Canary, Atom, and maybe Wildcat and Arsenal.

There is no chance of a Black Canary show with Katie Cassidy. There's too much of a mixed reaction to her character.

I think an Atom show is more likely than a Firestorm show, but my hunch is the next show will be female led. If they tie Berlantis CBS Supergirl show in, and maybe make a Zatanna show, they'll have their rich guy, their earthbound superhero, an alien and a magic/supernatural character.

Another tv show idea could be Nightwing but that would be too much like Arrow.

They should make a series called All-Star Squadron where they focus on the minor superheroes, maybe a new one each week which eventually develops into a team-up. Or even better, make miniseries of each character and then a team-up series, kind of Marvel-esque.

@MrSotoMan "They should make an Assassins Creed TV show.

Imagine, a show where the only characters that stick are the ones that are in the present (Desmond Miles), and each season can be a new memory ready to form. New budget, new historical accuracies to follow.

Now that would be kick-ass!"

An Assassin's Creed anthology series would be great too!! Would allow them to cast big name actors/actresses for a season or two and then move onto a different character and time period.

I like that a lot. Especially since it seems Fassbender's Assassin's Creed movie is still in question.

@MrSotoMan

Agreed. The future/present-day story should be small fraction of the series, much like the games. Give just enough of a taste every so often so viewers remain some what interested, but don't forget about it either. And with it being a fraction of the series, maybe they could entice Kristen Bell to play the live action version of her character from the games, in a supporting role.

Also, agree the pseudo-anthology series approach is best. Keep Desmond and future/present-day characters the same, but Desmond's ancestor, location and time period change every season or two. There's so much they could cover in Italy alone with all the cities, characters and architecture, I wouldn't mind if it's the focus of the first season or two before changing time period/ancestor. Same as the first three AC games focused on various cities/time periods in Italy before moving elsewhere. Not to mention, if they end up doing a lot of CGI/sFX for architecture they'd want to get everything out of it, before relocating.

@MrSotoMan

If you do a post on this idea, please let me know I'd love to contribute, read and/or comment on it.

Same as I believe Assassin's Creed is best suited for a live action TV series, I believe the X-Men would be much better as a live action series than a movie. There's so much meat on the bone of the AC franchise a series allows the character(s) and story to be fully developed rather than streamlined to fit it all in a movie(s). The X-Men have such a large roster of characters/mutants you can't give each the screen time and development they deserve, but a series would all more characters to get their due.

The only concern I could potentially see with either/both would be a large budget for CGI/sFX for the AC architecture and the X-Men's powers. However, the CW has far exceeded my expectations with the sFX used on the Flash. I've mentioned on here before, I'm pleasantly surprised how the sFX on the Flash keep improving each episode. I'd assumed there'd be a lull of sorts every episode or so to spread the budget across the season, but I'm glad that logic was wrong. Point being, AC and/or X-Men live action series could work on a bigger network than the CW and still provide/afford good-great sFX/CGI.
