Greetings brothers, sisters... Gusto. I stand here now, a broken man from what I've seen. Death and destruction everywhere, and no end in sight. Well... figuratively. In reality a bunch of dudes we kinda liked got banned from an internet site - but it's still very sad.
Last night, Nate Best, owner and president of comicbookmovie put in some new reforms to the reporting system. Gone were the lists and lists of reports for a single individual - instead you only needed a certain amount to automatically get banned. It was meant to be an early Christmas present, and it was a great idea at the time. That was, until everything went a little pear-shaped...
Many fell that fateful night. McGee, the funniest guy on CBM. 0mega, a barrell of laughs himself, whose use of gifs rivalled MrBlackJack's. Jilly, with a profile pic even his own mother couldn't love. JoeMomma & JamesMan, who fell when they tried to call out this injustice. And, of course, Pasto, who once taught us all how to cook a sausage. These were great users, and funny guys who made this site what it was... gone.
And it wasn't just them. Trolls and former trolls of all kinds were lost in the massacre. Classic marvelites Trudy, TheRealRemyLeBeau and SageMode were wiped out, along with their newer allies MrBender & TheAmericanPatriot. On the DC side, Manitium (going by 'TheLastSonOfEl' and fooling nobody) and Jollem were also lost. Sure these guys could get annoying, and some deserved to go. But not like this. Never like this.
So who was behind these bannings? Well it sure as hell wasn't Nate, or the rest of the site. No, this was the work of a select few trolls, who created accounts either yesterday or today, and began to abuse the automated reporting system. Why did they do it? Personal vendettas, DC/Marvel alliances... In the end, it could have just been for sport...
The fact is that if you look at these users profiles (LowLeyLoki, TASM2SUX, DCSuperfan & PrincessLeia), they've all just created accounts for this one purpose. Could they even be the same person? Possibly. It's pretty sad when you think about it...
To the survivors I say this: Do not let their sacrifice be in vain. This is a community (a messed up, dysfunctional one that's for sure, but a community nonetheless). We banded together to save Yossarian from the pits of hell banning, and we can do it again.
This is not the end CBM users. This is just the beginning. Rest now knowing that McGee will be back to post weird gifs, and Pasto may yet have another chance to teach us all how to cook bacon, for today...
