Hit the jump for my take on what has recently happened in the comments: TROLLING WORSE THAN IT'S EVER BEEN! Also, I shall be discussing with you about what has happened to Public Square with users going on reporting frenzies.

As many of you know, recently there has been a huge spike in reporting and trolling on articles. To start off, I shall talk about the types of trolls out there. There are the Marvelites who worship anything that Marvel produces and there are the DC Fanboys, basically Marvelites but the other way around. The Nolanites are DC Fanboys but only worship Christopher Nolan and if you say even something as light as 'The Dark Knight has it's flaws' they go ape shit crazy. They also report comments made by users who disagree with their opinions and who don't worship Nolan. And there is the category that I fall into, the normal fans. The people who look forward to any upcmoming CBM out there. Now that that's over, let's get onto the matter at hand.

The trolls. The people that trash the article and then praise a different CBM. For example, a DC Fanboy/Nolanite would comment on an article about say, The Avengers and comment, 'Wow this looks shit! This is gonna be the Green Lantern of 2012! But not the most anticipated CBM of all time, The Dark Knight Rises! Anything Nolan touches turns to gold, everybody knows that! GO BATMAN!' And vice versa. The reason I have written this article is because of one user and one user only: SupermanPrime. I didn't want to name names but I had to. He has made threats towards other users in the comments and has been generally rude to others for nothing. As I write this, he is sat at #1 in Public Square, with 26 reports and seven troll badges. I don't see why Trolls need to do this. But some may argue that Grif should have been banned a long time ago. But I don't think so. If somebody replies to a troll's comment angrily shouting at them or something then they will reply with an even more hate-filled comment. But Grif doesn't do this. He's not huring anybody. He comes, expresses his opinion, then leaves. So for all you trolls, quit it. Because it's no fun for anybody. Now that that's over and done with, on to the second subject.

Public Square gone wild. To be honest, the place has seen worse days but I thought that I would bring this to light as it relates to trolling. If there are more trolls, more angry comments which means more reports which means less space in the Hall of Shame. There was an event two weeks ago where a user who went by the name 'Groot' reported every comment that he layed his eyes on. There were 50 users in the square and Teabag was #1, with just over 50 reports and countless badges. Luckily it was soon over and Galactus banned their ass! But something similar may be on the horizon. I love coming here but hate it when users report comments and there is nothing wrong with them. I also hate trolls. It makes it difficult for other users and makes them not want to comment anymore which is sad. This also puts more pressure on Galactus to ban more people and he has to spend more time sorting through Public Square. Banning seems to be the only option here, but people an just make new accounts. I don't know whether there is a way to stop people actully viewing the site but if there is, please say so in the comments.

There is one user who always seems to be in Public Square and we all know who he is: Teabag. Some see his Boob pics as harmless fun, but others see it as spamming and report the hell out of him (not naming names). Teabag is a CBM staple and it would be a shame if he was banned, the same as if Grif or Gusto were to be banned tomorrow.

There are other types of trolls. The people that start the age-old Marvel VS. DC argument, the people that report users who's opinion is different to their's and many more. If you read this and know that you are one of the people that I mentioned, GTFO! None of us have time for people like you. Anyway, thanks for reading and please share your thoughts in the comments section!

Yeah, I even know some that have started saying perverted things or got into an argument just so they could have a troll badge...

The trolling system on this site sucks because people who do troll dont get banned and the people who dont troll gets reported. I got reported for saying I was more excited for the Avengers than TDKR. What kind of bullshit is that?

I think the trolling system is brilliant. Many have been banned or scared away. Took awhile but they're gone. Really doesn't seem to be as bad as you guys put it. If you know you're not a troll then don't worry about it, Galactus is sure to remove your troll badges as soon as possible. Combating this problem of false reports is going to be difficult but it's probably best just to ignore it.

wow, i got galactus himslef to comment on my article! admire the reporting system myself, but sometimes people do get falsely reported on. i remember when this 'groot' business was going on i told him in a comment that basically every one of the comments he has reported had been fine and then i got a whining badge. that was the whole point of the article, to say what the comments section was turning in to. Thanks for commenting guys! ALL HAIL GALACTUS!

I like the edit button because it allowed us to rectify typos. Bit it also allows the 'policing' of the site better.

I'm sure that the people keeping a vigil over this site know who the real spammers and trolls are. Some people just have single minded opinions. That's not a bad thing...it is, after all, an opinion none the less.

The only issue I actually have is the amount of 'thumbs down' some brilliant reporting/editorials get. People use it unwisely and dislike articles because it doesn't relate to their personal taste. It always happens on pages and groups (on Facebook fr example) as the member volume increases. The real fans get lost amongst the sea of members who aren't particularly fussed about its existence and what it's trying to achieve....and whether it succeeds in doing so.

After having a dig once (I wrote 'computer says no' a while ago) I was firmly put in my place...and rightly so. It's only after being a member for so long that I was aware of the intricacies of running such a site. And, in all honesty, it's done well. We shouldn't worry about true trolling or spamming as those at the top always have their eye on the problems and rectify them in good time.

Nice article by the way.

@CraptainAmsrkca & MovieMaster- I have to disagree about the edit button. Yes it helps you correct errors bug what if someone is trolling and you reply then they go ahead and edit it to say something else? It would male you look crazy. Spelling errors can just be fixed like how it is now with a * and the correction.

I try not to say anything troll like but if I think a movie is gonna suck I will tell you. I don't take sides between DC and Marvel like some people do I love both of them equally. I hate trolls though they are by far one of the most spineless types of people in the world because they hide behind their computers to insult people. They should try and insult someone to their face and then get their asses beat.

Great article, dude. Now for me to rant about something:

I'll admit that I'm one of the people who reports a lot of Tea's stuff. It's not only his stuff that I report, though. I report anything that has to do with overly-sexual material. I don't want to be reading an article in the library, go to post, and then have a friend walk up behind me and be like "Dude! You're in a public place! Cut that out!" This site is almost NSFW. I love this site, though. I have MANY fond memories of it. This site has the best news and fan-material on the entire internet! I love Teabag and some of the other perves ((speaking of which: where's Leee been at?)) but they tend to get carried away. That is all that I have to say, at this moment.

I think the idom "Trolls" is, pretty much, a term of opinion

A lot of people think Nolan is a "hack", most think he's a "genius"

Example:
JackDexx, to me, "troll" is an understatment ((cant express it in words... itll be a lot of bleeping)) but jjmeylar has more patience for him

See my point?
MovieMaster
MovieMaster - 8/30/2011, 12:34 PM
yeah, good point. i was referring to people like supermanprime though who undoubtedly, are trolls.
