FEATURE: The Ten Best Comic Book Movie Moments Of 2011

Apart from the odd blip, 2011 was a fantastic year for comic book movies. Here are the 10 best moments from Captain America, Green Hornet, Green Lantern, THOR and X-Men: First Class.

It's been a great year for comic book movies (well, mostly!) and here are my top ten moments from those released this past year. I'm sure you all have your own opinions on these and many others, so please feel free to sound off with your thoughts in the usual place. It would be extremely easy to select ten moments for each of these, so don't forget to also add any I may have missed!

10. The Green Hornet - Gangster's Paradise

While not everyone enjoyed Michel Gondry's take on The Green Hornet, the scene between Seth Rogen (Green Hornet) and Jay Chou (Kato) in which the duo sing along to Coolio's "Gangster's Paradise" while taking the Black Beauty out for the first time is what Rogen quite rightly describes in the film as "so wicked".

9. Captain America: The First Avenger - "We Had A Date"

There was plenty of action to be found in Captain America, but this quiet ending to the blockbuster strikes more of a chord than all of those combined. The relationship between Steve and Peggy was far more convincing than any of the other Marvel Studios movies (Tony/Pepper, Thor/Jane, Bruce/Betty) and with one line, Chris Evans manages to portray just how much Cap has truly lost.

8. X-Men: First Class - "Go [frick] Yourselves"

Not much to say about this one. Hugh Jackman returns as Wolverine for a very funny and very surprising (providing you didn't see any spoilers beforehand) cameo appearance, swiftly turning down Charles and Erik's offer with three simple words (one of which has never been uttered in an X-Men movie before).

7. Green Lantern - Hal Jordan Vs. Parallax

Despite being arguably the biggest disappointment of 2011, Green Lantern wasn't all bad. The battle between Hal and Parallax was initially a bit underwhelming, but as soon as they took the fight into space, we saw the superhero show off not only his impressive powers, but also just how much better the movie could have been...

6. THOR - Thor Vs. Loki

It's brother vs. brother in the action packed ending to Thor. Featuring plenty of memorable moments, most of which come courtesy of Tom Hiddleston's Loki, Chris Hemsworth also gets a chance to show off his acting chops. "This is madness" Thor cries as a manic looking Loki replies with, "Is it? IS IT?!"

5. X-Men: First Class - "I Prefer...Magneto"

Sure to send a chill down the spine of any comic book fan, we see Michael Fassbender in full costume as Magneto with a helmet ripped straight out of the pages of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's X-Men #1. He utters the words, "I prefer...Magneto" in response to Emma Frost and fans everywhere start crossing their fingers for a sequel.

4. THOR - "Well, I Guess That's Worth A Look"

What a way to set up The Avengers! After his apparent death earlier in the movie, what a shock it was that he was back seemingly controlling the mind of Erik Selvig and about to get his villainous hands on the Cosmic Cube. This scene was directed by Joss Whedon and also our first real tease for the ensemble movie.

3. Captain America: The First Avenger - Star Spangled Man

Set to quite possibly one of the catchiest songs ever, we see Steve Rogers don a ridiculously faithful interpretation of the original Captain America costume and "sock old Alolf in the jaw" several times! Paying homage to the early roots of the character, this also serves as an effective way of making Steve's choice to run around the battlefield as a costume hero a convincing one.

2. X-Men: First Class - "Let's Just Say I'm Frankenstein's Monster...And I'm Looking For My Creator"

A scene which arguably rivals the sheer brilliance of The Dark Knight's Joker interrogation, Matthew Vaughn and Michael Fassbender collaborate to put together a tense and violent confrontation between Erik and two Nazi's hiding out in Argentina. The majority of it isn't even in English, but that makes absolutely no difference, and the whole thing is topped off with Henry Jackman's fantastic score.

1. X-Men: First Class - "She Didn't Do This Erik, You Did"

In a powerful and emotional scene between James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, Charles and Erik's fight reaches a powerful climax which ultimately costs "Professor X" the use of his legs. This leads not only to the end of their friendship, but also to the beginning of the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants.

Honourable Mentions

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes - "Nooo!"
THOR - Loki Is The New King Of Asgard
Transformers: Dark Of The Moon - Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's Ass
