Deadline is reporting that Jerry O’Connell (Stand By Me) will take on the role of Herman Munster. In the original series the role was played by the late and great Fred Gwynne. So far the cast is made up of Eddie Izzard as Grandpa Munster, Mason Cook as Eddie Munster and Charity Wakefield will play Cousin Marilyn.

The pilot, written by Bryan Fuller and to be directed by Bryan Singer, is described as a reinvention of the 1960s sitcom about The Munsters, a family of “monsters” — vampires, werewolves and Frankenstein, and their “plain” cousin (Charity Wakefield) — that will feature striking visuals in the vein of Fuller’s ABC dramedy Pushing Daisies. O’Connell will play family patriarch, the handsome and gangly Herman Munster, a great dad and devoted husband. He is married to Lily, a vampire, with whom he has fathered a 10-year-old boy, Eddie (Mason Cook). Strong but sentimental, Herman works at a funeral home, and worries that Eddie’s transformation into a werewolf and burgeoning awareness of his family’s origins will crush the boy’s spirit.

Jerry gotta eat.
As this is CBM, shouldn't the references to his previous credits include the brilliant My Secret Identity? Well it was brilliant when I was 10 anyway...

Wow, that's interesting. The actors they have for this show aren't good fits for the characters.

I mean, it's almost like the creators of this never watched the original show.

@nailbiter Lol, I think I've seen a couple of episodes of My Secret Identity. I vaguely remember it from my childhood.

I wish I would have watched it more. At that time I was more focused on Baywatch though; I was very passionate about becoming a Lifeguard. :P

@teabag He's married to the beautiful Rebbecca Romijn(Mystique). I think he did better than alright for himself. :)

[frick] yeah. Jerry O'Connell is like the creepy uncle always at every Nickelodeon Awards even though he has no upcoming gigs. He's like the white Will Smith...except without the summer "blockbusters"

@teabag What? Jennifer Lawrence make look a lot different from Rebecca Romijn, but she's hot in her own right.

And lol, I think CoffeeBean is your doppelganger. You know you hit big time when you have your very own doppelganger.

Between coffee and tea, I've always been a tea man, myself. *Mr. T* I pity the fool who doesn't have a drink of this! :P

His career is a mess. Only good thing he's nailed lately is Stamos's ex!

Maybe if he got fat again, he could do Stand by Me 2?

The munsters is a classic that should not be F$$$$$$ with! Especially not on tv. Just air reruns and I will tune in! And if I want to see o'connel.... Sliders is on Netflix

@teabag Lol, Pringles will do that to you. Any actress replacing Rebecca Romijn in a role is tough. They would be unfairly judged.

I agree that Rebecca was the sexier Mystique, but you have to hand it to Jennifer Lawrence. She's a good choice for a younger Mystique IMO.

I was unhappy with this whole 'rebooted Munsters' thing thing when I first heard about it, but the more I hear about it, the more it sounds like 'cancelled within two months'. And I'm probably being generous. So why waste energy being upset about this serialized abortion? Within six months of its debut, it will be nothing but a trivia question.

I am so excited for this! I loved this show when I was a kid! It always played on Nick at Nite.

I'm sure it's gonna get cancelled during the first season but hopefully it'll have a few laughs.

Well...that signs the death warrant for this series. Guy hasn't had a show last more than 6 episodes in years.

Still and all, I've faith in Fuller considering his past credits.
