My fellow Scotsman and comic book legend Mark Millar has launched his very own production company. In a special feature with The Scottish Sun Mark has detailed why he has taken this step and what he hopes to achieve.
I have shared some excerpts below - but be sure to check out the full article by clicking the source link below.
On why he choose to establish Millarworld Productions
It would be easy for me to take off and just set up base in Los Angeles. But I feel passionately about doing here what the director Peter Jackson achieved in New Zealand.
He's as far away from Hollywood as we are but proved geography was no barrier by creating one of the biggest movie franchises of all time with Lord Of The Rings." Jackson made New Zealand the main star of his films and Mark admitted: "The scenery is stunning but we can more than match that. Over the next five years in Scotland I want to do the same here.
On the first project the company will be working on, American Jesus
American Jesus is the first non-superhero thing I've done. It's a bit like Harry Potter for Christians.
I've always wondered what it would be like if Jesus came back to the present day.
But he only discovers he's Christ when he talks to his mum after the accident and she says 'I have something to tell you — you are the son of God' as she had got pregnant Virgin Mary-style.
The first part of the movie starts in America, but he disappears to Scotland in the hope his enemies won't find him before battling the anti-Christ, Armageddon, the whole bit. As a practising Catholic I will treat it reverentially. I already have the Mitchell Library in Glasgow penned in for a very important scene, simply because I love that building so much.
I also plan to shoot on location at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.
That's because the Salvador Dalí painting of Christ of Saint John of the Cross is crucial to the plot.
And on anything else he has in the works
I'm also working on a movie called Super-crooks, about a bunch of bank robbers with super-powers who target countries who don't have superheroes.
The first movie is set in Spain and the sequel will be partially set in Scotland.
I've got a big setpiece I've written in the book around Edinburgh Castle so hopefully that's another big location we can use here.
For me this is great news - I live in Edinburgh and would love to see more productions coming here, its a beautiful city (when the weather behaves) and I would love to see something filmed here on the silver screen.
