Marvel Comics Inspire a Succesful Police Raid

Toronto police held a press conference Wednesday morning, announcing they'd dredged up 27 firearms, $110,000 and filed 395 criminal charges in a Tuesday raid on gang members. The raid was named Project Marvel because some of the gang members used Marvel Comics superhero names.

Someone, call Alpha Flight! Quick!

The police were triggered by gang violence, and 900 officers searched 67 locations to find the material. They filed the charges against 60 people, including some young offenders. In today's press conference, police said there was more work to be done.

And thank goodness none of those young offenders had been members of the New Warriors. THOSE poor kids can't handle anymore of this kind of publicity after that Stamford incident. Look what happened to poor Speedball, for goodness sakes!

I hope they put those gang bangers in the Thunderbolts program so they can do some good for the community.

I heard that the thunderbolts were getting new matching neon orange costumes as well. That should be fitting.

It's disappointing. They didn't list the nicknames used, how many were using Marvel nicknames, they didn't say if any comics or action figures were seized in the raids or if any of the gang members had Marvel character tats. For all we know there could just have been a few gang members who were only ironically nicknamed or even had names of DC characters that someone mistook as Marvel characters.

It seems the Comics inspired the gang members more than the police, but okay.

Names they should have taken: Shocker, Trapster (aka Paste Pot Pete), Stilt Man, Batroc the Leaper, Vulture

Wonder if The Prowler or The Shroud were involved? Cloak and Dagger, maybe? Power Man and Iron Fist probably infiltrated their operation, but it was MOON KNIGHT that saved the day! (If he wasn't wiggin' out, being all psychzo.) ;D

This is just speculation, but I have to wonder if Marvel characters continuously fighting each other could have been inspiration for the use of their names for criminal activities.
