He's a great artist but a terrible editor in chief. The last thing he needs is more power to give characters satanic divorces and impossible amnesia.

Great news and a great find Multi! :)

There are a few things under Quesada's reign that have been a little less than perfect (One More Day for example!) but they dont even beging to compare to all of the excellent things he's done! I'm glad to hear he'll have this role from now on.

Are we confident that Quesada knows how to "ensure that all portrayals of Marvel's characters and storytelling remain true to the essence of Marvel's rich history." He was behind brand new day, right? Maybe he is a pretty good editor, there are some really good books out now, but I question some of his story ideas. I'm a share holder. I wonder I was given the opportunity to vote on this?

One of the reasons I believe they will stick with the 616 version of Hawkeyes personality (if they use him in a movie) Is because of Quesada. I don't remember where, but quite a while ago I read an article with him where he was talking about the unexpected backlash of killing off Hawkeye in Avengers Disassembled. They really had no clue how popular the character was.

Yeah, this is cool news. The guy doesn't walk on water, but he is the most innovative, creative and ballsy editor in chief Marvel has ever had. I like this news. The dude has talent and he knows how to recognize talent.

p.s. to all you DC haters, I remind you: MARVEL RULES!!!!

p.p.s. @Stubbyswof - hahahaha!!! good one dude. Yeah, Batman not dead, but lost in time. Hmmmm, where have I read that story before ...

Marvel is better than DC without a shadow of a doubt in my eyes! Just compare how Marvel handled the return of Bucky to what DC did with the return of Jason Todd for example and it's clear to see which company is better at doing new and interesting things with their characters! :P

Talking of Marvel...

Got to love Marvel though I'm a bit worried about where Thor is going now that Siege is over. I really loved it When J. Michael Straczynski, Olivier Coiplel, Mark Morales and Laura Martin were handling it.

i don't understand the hate for him. he's been great with the exception of the One More Day incident.

but come on, for as long as he's been EIC, to only have one blotch on your record, thats pretty damn good, especially considering the comic book industry.

congratulations Joe, you deserve it!

I like him. Sure One More Day was a misstep, but he was also influential in getting the Ultimates, Knights and MAX up and running and he's been outspoken in his dislike for all of the "bring em back from the dead" shite.

As for the ongoing DC V Marvel thing, well, I enjoy both although generally I prefer Marvel characters, BUT, Dc's Vertigo imprint wipes the floor with ANYTHING thats ever come from Marvel imo.

MARVEL is the BEST..NUFF SAID!

OK so I got more to say, LOL. I don't see One more Day
as a misstep, I think it was nessicary to do a story like that to really shake things up, and getting fans to
say "WTF! You F*** up spidey!"..But really OMD was a stroke of genius..He found a way to reboot spidey without starting ALL over again..and once fans read a few of the new issues they were hooked..at least I was.

Quesada is an AMAZING artist..and great Editor in cheif
this is really GREAT news!!

There's the "Peter Principal" at work for you. The guy that singlehandedly made the Marvel Universe a dark, demoralizing, crappy place that you no longer want to escape to gets to ply his wares on a whole new level. One more day is just one of many downward spirals he piloted.

" to ensure that all portrayals of Marvel's characters and storytelling remain true to the essence of Marvel's rich history... "

pleeeeeasee, he's the one responsible for the slowly killing of an icon like Spidey ! the new route for the web head has no impact - is all 'been there done that' feel to it.
hopefully he will respect the characters for film versions....

@Gaston - you gave up on Marvel? Right as they create their own movie studio and are producing some of the best CBMs ever??? Yeah dude, great timing ...

p.s. good lucky waiting 2-3 yrs for DC to come out with one movie at a time :-P

Ok,

How about just about everything starting with House of M? Having the Scarlet Witch go insane and somehow elevating her powers to godlike status (hah!), destroying the Avengers and altering the Marvel Universe. Yeah, that was just great. What a bust that was. Then on to the next bust, trying to kick off an alternate universe by sucking in the real Marvel universe mainstays. Remember Hero's Reborn? Not really worth remembering was it? An even bigger bust. Then onto Civil War where a longtime hero like Iron Man is suddenly turned into a greedy corporate dick, turning on his closest friends. Not much of a hero anymore. In fact their recent "fix" for that of making him "forget" all the uncharacteristic dickhead crap he pulled is even more laughable. Then of course we have "Dark Reign" where the government and much of the public suddenly turn everything over to criminals. Yeah. That was believable.

Pretty much every move to shape the Marvel Universe since Avengers Disassembled has been one misstep after another, in an attempt to go darker, darker, and ever darker. Believe it or not a lot of people read comics as a form of escapeism. That's why the medium is refered to as "fantasy". It's no longer a place you would actully want to escape to now is it? That world is far too effed up now. Quesada has had the Marvel Universe in a constant downward spiral for years now, and is currently in a lame attempt to get back to "normal" with "Heroic Age", but the truth is it will never be as grand as it once was. He's effed it up too much. Even now they tout a return to greatness, but Cap is not Cap, he's Nick Fury, and Bucky is Cap. All the new Avengers are just another rehash attempt to promote new characters. Doesn't anyone remember how great the Avengers were when Perez was on it?

Now this moron is going to work his "magic" on the other mediums. Great!

But he's the guy who did One More Day and lied to all of us during The Civil War and said "No take backs." I don't trust Joe.

Not to mention that DC said they would never consider any kind of crossovers as long as Joe was in charge.

@peterparker420 You don't just reboot Spiderman in his book like that. He was evolving. He had new powers. He freaking pimp slapped the kingpin! That was like the best Spiderman book I've ever read! You think he needed a reboot after that?

Besides, OMD was the crappiest, corniest Spiderman book I've ever read. Spidy selling his marriage to the devil was not a good idea and it wasn't even well executed. And the worst thing about it is that Aunt May would have never agreed to them doing something like that. It was just stupid. Great responsibility my butt. I have not purchased a Spiderman comic book since this incident.
gorgeousgeeks
gorgeousgeeks - 6/3/2010, 8:23 AM
And another things about OMD that is utter crap is that Joe gets so defensive about it and pretends like it was so awesome. When anyone gives him criticism, he's like "Well, what made Spiderman so cool when he was married anyway?" That's not what every is pissed about. They're pissed because the story sucked!

And how did OMD bring back Harry? You know they also wanted to bring back Gwen Stacy. OMD was his mandate and they didn't care how it happened so they wrote a crap story and wanted us to suck it up and go with it. My dad's bought just about every Spiderman since the 70's and he stopped when OMD came out. Utter crap. Crap. Crap.
breakUbatman
breakUbatman - 6/3/2010, 12:16 PM
I personally really picked up Spiderman after OMD but hey...what I'm more worried about is what the hell is up with the love for Jeph Loeb I'm suprised his writing hasnt made top story on SNL weekend update, when I got back into comics I picked Iron Man, Batman, Thor, Punisher Max, Hulk and Immortal Iron fist. Red Hulk sucks balls and while Iron Man is great the new hollow bones suit doesnt sit well with me.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 6/3/2010, 3:56 PM
@ niknik

do you have things confused? (not trying to sound disrespectful) Joe Quesada isn't a WRITER. if you didn't like Civil War, then blame Mark Millar, that was HIS creation.

didn't like House of M? blame Bendis, that was HIS creation.

Disassembled wasn't the first time that Scarlet Witch lost her marbles and lost control of her powers. And again, that was Bendis, NOT Quesada.

Yes, Quesada has a say in the things that happen, but these are NOT his ideas. If you want to blame him for something, then blame him for making Bendis the all-powerful in Marvel Comics. But can you really blame him for that?? Bendis sells. like him or not. Quesada made a good decision for the company. If i owned a company, I would gladly give a promotion to the guy thats responsible for keeping my profits above ALL the competition.
gorgeousgeeks
gorgeousgeeks - 6/3/2010, 6:27 PM
Joe was absolutely responsible for OMD. He wanted Peter single by any means possible. It was a terrible send off for one of my favorite writers, Straczynski. He didn't even want to put his name on the last book. Joe had an agenda that he executed by whatever he had to do. It was so poor and so not needed. Why did Spiderman need a reboot when we have television shoes, movies, and Ultimate Spiderman?

But people make messed up decisions all the time. I've really enjoyed Marvel's stories in the past few years, though the endings of most of the big crossover events didn't end as well as they started.

I just wished Joe wouldn't have lied to everyone about "no take backs" during The Civil War at the comic con. Spiderman revealing his identity to the world was HUGE and in the end, he didn't have the guts to stick to his word. That kind of disturbs me. As I originally stated, my problem is that I don't trust Joe.

But congrats I guess.

the wings on captain america is that big of a deal :P from the art concepts of him that were released looks great. i hear alot of hardcore comic fans of marvel are very unpleased with joe but hes not purposly trying to mess up the comics hes just doin what thinks sounds good in his head

@ thesentry

yeah, but you also have to realize that most of the "hardcore fans", complain about every comic that isn't written by Geoff Johns or Robert Kirkman. don't believe me? go read the boards over at Newsarama. its ridiculous. they act like they know so much about comics, and they're such serious fans, then they complain about everything that comes out of Marvel. but you know whats funny?? they're still buying and reading it. now tell me, if you hated something so much, would you still spend your money on it??

i'm a hardcore fan, but the things people say over there make me embarrassed to be a part of the same fan base.
