Ron Howard To Direct The Strange Adventures of H.P Lovecraft

Ron Howard To Direct The Strange Adventures of H.P Lovecraft

Howard's first foray into the world of the CBM will be his take on the graphic novel from Image comics...

The story deals with a wimpy writer who becomes a bad-ass fighter of all things supernatural(The main character is not supposed to be renowned Horror writer H.P Lovecraft himself).

Howard is best known for his family friendly movies and most recently the poorly recieved adaptations of Dan Browns novels. The award winning director is aware of the challenges to come...

Howard says, "Look, it's challenging, but if we get it right, it could be really original and psychologically interesting and scary in a great way. And it's a graphic novel, this is new territory for me." Regarding the story elements of Lovecraft, Howard went on to say:

"It very cleverly uses H.P. Lovecraft in a fictional way, but there's some loose biographical elements. But it certainly has the flavor and the tone of Lovecraft. The character is a very young Lovecraft."

I have never read this, but I have read some of Lovecraft's stories, and they are creepy stuff. So lets hope that translates onto the screen and Howard doesn't make it too kiddie friendly.

Usually those turn out to be stinkers. Let's hope RH brings some quality into it. I bet he will

A Lovecraft movie is awesome!! It is interesting that Howard is directing, I hope he does a good job. This could be really cool if everything is done right.

I bet he wont make it 'kiddie friendly'. He pulled out of directing The Alamo because they wouldnt let him make the R version he wanted. Sounds like our boy Opie is ballsy enough to make this right.

Hey, right after he finally got the academy award for Apollo 13 for best picture and director, he took a chance and directed Mel Gibson and Gary Sinese in Ransom.

Truly not a family film in any way but even that was intense and some of the best acting from both from the both of them and Rene Russo. Gibson/Sinese fall into my top five all time favorite actor vs actor on screen face offs.

Ron Howard may not be too well versed in the actual, specific graphic novel, but he at least knows of the creator and I am sure that he will do the research and become a fan. He needs to do something to get past the horrible Dan Brown adaptions.
