While out promoting his runaway train movie, Unstoppable (which co-stars Star Trek's Chris Pine), actor Denzel Washington discussed the marvel of modern Hollywood and sang the praises of CBMs like Iron Man and Spider-Man.

Reports Contactmusic.com, "Denzel Washington believes the new popularity of comic-book adapted films is because the technology allows people to experience 'the same adventure' as those who read them 40 years ago. Denzel Washington thinks comic book-adaptation movies are 'on steroids'. The Hollywood star believes comic movies such as Spider-Man and Iron Man have managed to recapture the spirit of a by-gone era thanks to the technology which can now be used on such projects. He said: "I think that comic book movies now is what comic books were 40 years ago. That same adventure, that same thrill. I had a buddy of mine who had this big collection of comic books and he lived in that world man! Now I think with the technology we can do comic books on steroids."

Washington fans may recall his impassioned comic book discussion in the action thriller Crimson Tide.

Denzel's a great actor! Can't think of a good CBM role for him off the top of my head though.

BTW, Check out my massive FLASH FANCAST over in FANFIC. Or Just click the Flash pic below!

if Marvel and SLJ dont agree they should have Denzel Washington as Nick Fury or T'Chaka.

haha, Grif, Gangster was good. Eli..had its moments. I think he should deffo make a CBM. If not a super hero one at least something like Preacher/The Boys. Mothers Milk?

In the 90's, he would've been an awesome War Machine.

Great actor (I can't wait to see Unstoppable) and I too would love to see him tackle a decent CBM role...no idea who though! :P

The man would be a killer CLOAK, along side Kiera Knightly as Dagger ;)

Superguy1591- I say James Earl Jones should be the voice of either Galactus or Darkseid. Fishburne would be a stellar Martian Manhunter but Keith David is the best choice for Mr. Sinister ;)

I was a background actor (extra) in Unstoppable, was unable to meet him. He is a great human being. Also a great actor. But I am not sure if he is the type of guy to do a CBM. you almost have to be commited to that role, Unless they decide to redo, remake.reboot it they day it is released due to some dumb reason.

Wow. What a cool guy and phenomenal actor. This just gives comics an comic book movies further validation as a legitimate form of art that should be taken seriously. When Denzel speaks, people listen. :)

p.s. Why do people always cast black guys as J'onn J'onzz? What? White people can't be Martians?

I'd love to see Denzel as Martian Manhunter. And if he was 10-15 years younger, he'd make a fine John Stewart.

Matches- I guess it has to do with Black middle aged men's naturally deep voices that make them such great contenders for MM. Cartoons aside, i always thought of him as having a deep voice.

Yeah, the voice helps. I was just goofing around. I always liked Carl Lumbly's voice for the cartoon. Hey! What do you know? He's a black guy too! It's a conspiracy I tell ya! :D

T'Chaka would be rad, but how about this:

Wait for it. Waaaait foooor it... Denzel Washington is Jefferson Pierce, the Black Lightning!

Matches- He'd certainly be a good physical fit, but i feel he'd be wasted on that character. Never been much of a fan of his. Always prefered Static ;)

Great actor! One of my favorites!

You know who he would have been great for?

The Colonel from AKIRA. I know that they are casting the great Morgan Freeman in the role. But even when I first saw and read AKIRA. I would always picture Denzel Washington's voice instead of the actual voice actor.

@Geeksiah. Is you avatar growing hair? I don't remember it looking like that.

@Shaman- Think about for a minute though: inner city school teacher that becomes a politician, fighting drug dealing gangs and government corruption. That's a role that has Denzel's name all over it! It could be like Lean On Me or Dangerous Minds with superpowers!

Hey, since we're fan casting a great actor in fanboy dream roles, how about rebooting a shitty movie of a cool character, instead of rebooting a classic (?), and remake Steel with Denzel as John Henry Irons. He can't be any worse than Shaq, right? ;)

Superguy1591- True, Ironside is a legend! As for John Stewart, i'd prefer Mathew St. Patrick over Erik King. King is just not that good of an actor, i find.

Matches- Great points! Hell, he could even make the character alot more interesting than what DC have done with him in the past. Although i haven't really followed him in the books much, the little i saw of him was lackluster at best. Such a great actor like Denzel could certainly change things around. :)

As for Steel, Terry Crews ;)

Superguy1591- True, King can do angry. But so can St. Patrick ;)

jazzman- What i hate most about King is his voice. It doesn't sound natural. And his skills are decent but nothing worth mentionning IMO.

jazzman- Really??? I had no idea! Yeah, it certainly could be the cause of his weird voice. When he's clam, i find he's a better actor. But when it gets intense, his voice makes his performance seem a bit hammy.
