UPDATE: Marvel Netflix Series' To Consist Of Sixty One Hour Long Episodes; Will Shoot In NYC

According to The Wrap, Disney and the State of New York have struck a deal which will turn the city - arguably the centrepiece of the Marvel Universe - into the home of Netflix's planned series' based on Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. An announcement from Disney CEO Bob Iger and Governor Andrew Cuomo will apparently be made in Times Square today, and the state has apparently carved out tax incentives valued at around $4 million to accommodate the needs of the massive multi-character series. Interestingly, the site also adds that the ambitious Netflix project will consist of around 60 one hour episodes in total. In a recent interview with IGN, Kevin Feige indicated that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Jeph Loeb is more heavily involved in them than he is, so it might be best not to get too excited just yet. What do you think?

UPDATE: According to the official press release:

"This pioneering agreement calls for Marvel to develop four serialized programs totaling 52 one-hour episodes culminating in a four to eight episode mini-series programming event. Led by a series focused on “Daredevil,” followed by “Jessica Jones,” “Iron Fist” and “Luke Cage,” the epic will unfold over multiple years of original programming, taking viewers deep into the gritty world of heroes and villains of Hell’s Kitchen, New York. Netflix has committed to a minimum of four, thirteen episodes series and a mini-series event in which the Marvel characters from the first four series team up as “The Defenders,” much like “The Avengers.”"

Thats a pretty decent amount of episodes per season. Actually its a lot easier to track who is watching the shows if its on Netflix.

darklordzor - 2/26/2014, 7:02 AM
Not all that surprising....since they intially told us they'd be 15 episodes each. Simple math puts that at 60.

That's a must have to film in NYC. It sounds like maybe 15 episodes per character. Sounds cool to me.

Sounds good to me.

I would think 13 each for the characters, and 8 for Defenders. They did say that Defenders would just be a miniseries. Hell it could be 14 each and 4 for Defenders.

Any way it works, we're still getting a lot of kickass tv.

This is great news. The only thing that is a letdown is that Loeb will have a big input into these shows....

As I only watched Orange is the New Black after the season was already complete I don't know how Netflix shows work. Do they release a new episode weekly or do they just toss the whole season up at once?
