EW report that this isn't a new series, or a movie, but a book called
S which was developed by Abrams and written by Doug Dorst. According to them the story revolves around "a grad student and college senior who trade notes in the margins of 1949 novel by fictional reclusive author V.M. Straka. S." Nothing in that description about anyone sewing their own lips shut, but there ya go. Thoughts?
