Production on the first of the four Avatar sequels is now officially underway, and EW has unveiled our first behind-the-scenes look at some of the new cast additions.

The kids pictured here will play the offspring of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), as well as members of another Na’vi clan called the Metkayina. Apparently, all are set to have a "crucial role" in the follow-ups to James Cameron's mega-successful original.

The only one that won't be made-over to look like a young Na'vi is a character named Javier “Spider” Socorro, who will be played by Jack Champion (third from left).

“We never had this youthful element before, and that brings a different kind of energy to the film,” says executive producer Jon Landau. “They represent the future generation of Pandora and play a very significant role—not just in this movie but throughout all the movies.”

Avatar 2 is set to hit theatres in 2020.

@TheFox - Lol right. Makes you wonder why they can't that Crow Reboot going. Nonetheless production of this film will take a while, so it'll be years before we see the final product

@Deonox - maybe. We did get Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in 2 years which while not as effects heavy on environments is the closest thing regarding performance capture, plus they dont have to invent all of this technology and the techniques to use it this time around. Performance capture and imax technology are pretty ubiquitous now. im betting 3 years max before the next one and probably a year in between after that if they are really all filming at once

@Ha1frican - Oh no, that element is fine. We're not going to see these movies because at least from the last time i was following this, these movies are being shot simultaneously not back to back

Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse, Cameron turns Avatar 2 into a Young Adult story. Move over CW, there’s a new king of cheese!

Oh boy, I really hope I'm wrong but my guys telling me this is going to bomb hard core. Really think they should have saved the kids for part 3, seems a little early to follow a new generation.
