BOX OFFICE: JURASSIC WORLD Topples AVENGERS For All-Time Record Opening
It always looked likely to happen, but now it's official: Universal's Jurassic World is now the new king of the domestic box office, setting a record for the biggest opening weekend of all time with a predicted $209 million. This just beats the previous $207.4M record held by Marvel's The Avengers...
It's a good day to be a dinosaur. Yesterday we reported that Jurassic World had taken a bite out of its competition and raked in a massive $204.6 million on its first weekend of release stateside, putting it ahead of Marvel's Avengers: Age Of Ultron and setting a record as the second biggest domestic opening in history behind The Avengers, which took in $207.4M back in May 2012.
Well, it's just surpassed it.
The latest numbers indicate that the Colin Trevorrow directed sequel raked in a whopping $209 million (though some are putting it slightly lower) over Friday, Saturday and Sunday, giving it the biggest domestic opening weekend of all time. Add to that the over $307.2M accumulated overseas, and Jurassic World has smashed another record as the only movie in history to cross $500 million in one weekend. If the film continues that box office dominance, it'll be hard to imagine anything taking its crown any time soon... but then, Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be with us in December!
Do you think Jurassic World deserves this type of success? Sound off below.

Never doubt Tom Cruise, as the global megastar has finally joined the billion-dollar club with his latest blockbsuter Top Gun: Maverick! It's now only the second post-pandemic film to cross the milestone.
With Jurassic World: Dominion still tearing up the box office, DreamWorks Animation and Netflix have released the official trailer for the fifth and final season of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous!
Dinosaurs still rule the box office, as it's being reported that Jurassic World: Dominion will repeat as the box office champ, fending off the Disney/Pixar newcomer Lightyear, which is underperforming.
While Jurassic World: Dominion already runs 146 minutes, it looks like even more dinosaur action could be on its way as a new Blu-ray listing has seemingly confirmed the existence of an extended cut.
MCU movies have left us all feeling like we now need to wait through the credits of new blockbuster releases in order to see if there's a little something extra, but what about Jurassic World Dominion?
