JURASSIC WORLD 3 Director Colin Trevorrow Explains How The Next Film Will Differ From FALLEN KINGDOM

Both directors of the upcoming Jurassic World sequels recently sat down (in separate interviews) and discussed Fallen Kingdom's alternating genres and how the third instalment compares to the rest...

The upcoming Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is attempting something odd and intriguing byflipping to a different genre midway through. Director J.A. Bayona recently confirmed that Fallen Kingdom will significantly shift its tone from the movie’s second act onwards.

Following all of those juicy details from yesterday, EW has shared a new interview with Jurassic World 3 director Colin Trevorrow, who explained how his third installment will differ from 2015's Jurassic World and the upcoming Fallen Kingdom.

If I could contextualize each film, I would say Jurassic World was an action adventure, Fallen Kingdom is kind of a horror suspense film, and Jurassic World 3 will be a science thriller in the same way that Jurassic Park was.

While Jurassic World was similar to the tone and content of Jurassic Park, with Trevorrow describing the film as a “science thriller,” it seems the franchise is continuing to distance itself from the Entertainment Park motif.

What do you think about the directors' comments? Do you like the direction the new films are headed in? Are you excited to see how Bayona and Trevorrow continue to evolve the franchise?

Sounds good to me, love that all three films are a different tone. Fallen Kingdom looks like what the Lost World should have been. And I think its certainly important for them to move away from the park aspect in order to remain fresh and relevant. We saw dinosaurs flying into the real world at the end of JP3, but it seems this film and the sequel will actually explore dinosaurs integrating with humanity.

@HeavyMetal4Life -

Not to be a drag but they've done absolutely everything we've seen in the trailer before already in some form.

As recently as the last film. It's literally the same thing as the others (cold-blooded wealthy men want to make a profit from dangerous dinos and make a new super dangerous one) they just may focus more on the "horror" aspect.

I don't think it matters because most people however just like seeing dinosaurs. I like dinosaurs too, and I will watch it, but I can't pretend it's something original because there's a mosasaurus in the ocean underneath surfers. It will be an entertaining film just like the last one I'm sure but yeah we've seen escaped dinos in the outside world before. Even peering into children's bedrooms.

Pretty much taken the plot of 'Lost World' and redone it, just with more stupidity involved on behalf of the characters.

It'll definitely be interesting to see where the third movie goes after this park is destroyed and anything that happens on the mainland will tarnish any possibility of a new park, unless... if they go to one of the five islands we haven't seen yet ^_^

How was JP1 a science thriller & not horror & suspense? The entire film was a horror & suspense. That T-Rex nighttime scene is one of the greatest horror & suspense scenes ever in film

Jurassic Park should have never had sequels.

None of them have been good. Not even Spielberg could make a good follow up.

But the franchise won’t die so [frick] it, do what the Planet of the Apes prequels did and make Planet Of the Dinosaurs AKA Jurassic Planet

@LEVITIKUZ - Unfortunately none of the films have dealt with the scientific implications from the original novel. JP1 skirted around anything smart and science related and I agree, had the tone of a horror/suspense thriller. The original story dealt with espionage and the fact that nature finds a way toward life. The infamous shaving cream can dropped by "Newman" was supposed to contain eggs that eventually hatched destroying all possibilities of containment. Eventually, Dino's make it to the mainland. I love the Jurassic series but the spirit of the original source was unfortunately never part of the movies. BTW Jurassic Planet is a great name.

I really can't bring myself to care about these. The first was meh and this one looks like 'The Lost World'. I don't care about the characters or the CGI dinos. What else is there?

Based on the trailers this one will float the notion of dinos as weapons, and finally in the third one we will see that dino army / dinos with lasers thing spielberg and co talked about years ago.

Trevorrow is so fricking boring.

He’s like JJ Abrams light. And JJ Abrams is already pretty light.

The last trailer sold me to see this movie. As a HUGE JP1 fan, i was disappointed with JW but i understood where they were coming from and it made sense. I hope this one and JW3 are good... but honestly...besides becoming Dino Riders in JW3...not sure what direction they can go

Well, Jurassic World was really, really dumb (but fun!)...so if the third movie is "science thriller", I hope they make the script & villain's motivation more believable/interesting. Horror suspense for Fallen Kingdom sounds like it could be a good time.

If they insist on continuing this franchise I just want the movies to be good. It really should've ended after The Lost World though.

They really should have gone full on Planet Of The Dinosaurs with this series with dinosaurs roaming freely across the planet and humans living in walled cities. None of this mutant dino crap, just have a story where the heroes have to venture into dino territory, things go wrong, the walls come down and the city is overrun.
